To my understanding:

- You install the SX Core/Lite modchip

- Add Hekate to the micro SD card and rename it boot.dat

- Launch Atmosphere from Hekate

Have I missed anything important? Are there any differences between Erista and Mariko after loading Hekate? Do you need to be on a particular system version?

No, u need to install the SX Core/Lite modchip and after, flash Spacecraft-NX on the ship to load directly Atmophere, here the guide video help me to do that :)

- So to load Hekate we should follow this guide but rename the Hekate payload to "payload.bin"?

- Can you flash the modchip using Linux or a Windows virtual machine? I only have a Linux computer and don't want to borrow a friend's computer and install some dodgy USB driver on it.

Yes

From source for Spacecarft-NX :
Plug in the other end of the cable to your Windows PC. (Linux support is work in progress. Feel free to send in a PR for OS X)

I recomand u to use a PC with Windows10, i test with W7 and the module is not detected :(
