I don't know if this is right place for this thread, so please tell me and I'll move it.

Looked around for info about the video playing capabilities of the N3DSXL, and I found out it's quite limited. Nevertheless, some people talked about small videos just on Youtube's NintendoLife page. I went there with the console's browser and it was not easy to find videos that worked.

My questions are following: is there a resource somewhere online where we can find videos for the 3DS? Is there a specific format (I searched the forum but could not find enough elements to continue my research) we can use to look for other videos? I'm looking for small clips showing 3D (animals, etc.)

I read the thread called "convert any 3D movie to watch on the 3DS" by spinal_cord (I can't post links yet but it's here on gbatemp) and I will try to convert 3D IMAX documentaries and see if I can get them to play on the console. Not sure if I understood how the converter program works but there is a GUI which is nice for me :)

These days, you can actually watch brilliant perfect 3d movies on the 3ds. PROBLEM: it's a huge pain in the ass, but it CAN be done. It's actually slightly less of a pain in the ass, since you can now directly open the 3d movies from the 3d movie viewer app (this is all different from the old spinal_cord method.) You use the official "Mobiclip" software (it's illegal to obtain) which really isn't that difficult, but there are hurdles, occasional vids that won't load into mobiclip etc. On top of all that, processing mkvs somehow reduces the sound volume, so open the mkv with Audacity, raise the gain, and add the soundboosted sound to the mkv with MKVToolNix. It's a huge pain in the ass!

thanks yuyuyup that sounds like a handful indeed! I think I'd be able to do a simple conversion operation, but all the info I managed to find described multiple operations. I'm starting to wonder if all the hassle is really worth it to play a simple video...

In the meantime I managed to get a few youtube videos working with the 3DS (search words: "3D left right", or "3D SBS" for side by side), and then I even dug out my old 3D glasses to show the kids some RED/CYAN quick videos from youtube on the computer :)

I applied myself to converting a couple of Side by Side 3D Youtube videos (ocean world for example, the first google search result). I succeeded after several attempts (settings adjustements, and several software changes).
Eventually, it was 3DS Video v1.32 that produced a video that worked with the Nintendo 3DS Camera app.

When I thought I had it figured out, I had a mishap with a different video that I tried converting. You have to rename the video for it to be recognized by the Camera app, the name should look like HNI_0038.avi for example. After converting/renaming the video, I copied it onto the console's SD card.
When I started the Camera app, and clicked "View Photos", the system usually takes a couple of seconds to refresh once you added new content, but this time it said SD card error, and it crashed.
When I inspected the SD card in my computer, the video that I had renamed HNI_0038.avi had a different name : HNI_038.avi (one zero was missing, and I still had the original copy in my computer, I checked).

I got worried that my SD card might be corrupted, so I immediately backed it up and used a different SD card. After analysing the initial SD card there was no error (I only used windows check and repair...)

So all in all, it's really complicated and are 3D videos worth all the trouble (plus they take up quite a lot of space on your SD card). I may look back into it, but once it starts crashing fear tends to replace enthusiasm for me..!

Has anyone had experience in converting 3D videos?

Converting videos to see them in the camera app or convert them to separate cias is pointless and unnecessary, just convert to moflex and leave in the root, install 3d movie viewer and go on... it feels amazing once you have a few movies, like your own personal 3d netflix.
I can’t understand how this 3d video watching capability is the less polished aspect of 3ds homebrew when it should be the main point specially now that 3d tvs are no more;
Too many people working on mediocre ports or translations i guess..

I dont see what all your posts within every thread you can find on moflex are necessary for. No one cares, your at least 8 years late for anyone giving a damn about your thoughts on the matter.
