Nintendo 3DS gets a new firmware update for version 11.14.0-46

2020 hasn't been the most stable year, but at least Nintendo is hard at work making sure that above all else, the Nintendo 3DS is the most stable thing in your life during these trying times. The system has just received a brand new firmware update, the first of 2020, to be exact, bringing the revision number to 11.14.0-46. Currently, the yls8 page shows us that a few changes were made regarding the web browser, NATIVE_FIRM, and more. The official changelog from Nintendo says the oh so popular phrase you've come to love:
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Considering the random nature of this update, and the first few initial claims of those that took the plunge already, you might want to hold off on updating for right now, if you value having homebrew on your console. Reports state that Luma3DS is crashing, and that BrowserHax has been patched.

Is anyone having any issus with the latest update? My battery has all of a sudden been drained completely. I haven't noticing anything like this earlier (like the battery is wearing off). I'm gonna try and charge it again now, my 3DS is only 2.5 years old.
Not I. I didn't even plug in my 3ds when I updated.

which ds model do you have exactly? I will test it out tonight on my new 3ds xl and old 3ds and 2ds and see what happens

Drained completely? I've never heard of this before.. Yes, try to charge it again and see if the same occurs. If it does, try to buy a battery replacement (Best advice I can give you currently.)

I've heard that you can downgrade the system version on your 3DS, but I'm not sure if it's true or not, as I've never needed to attempt it.

There is no bricking

yes, you can downgrade with a nand backup (possibly ctr nand transfer as well). I've done it a few times with nand manager (a script for backing up/restoring nand/emunand. you need to use restore (safe). this can be done through godmode.

Ahh, so it's true :D I've been wondering about this, I knew it was supposed to be done from GodMode(9?) but now I'm certain  Thank you :)

godmode9, yes. I always suggest making a nand backup before updating, just in case. I have like 30 nand backups (make one after I install or do something new). now, I just make them when there's a new update before updating. I do the same with the ps3 (c2d, so cex and dex dumps) and my jtag 360 (have at least 20 of those). I guess I'm just paranoid. :D

I do the same with my o2DS --NAND backups are my best friend. I wouldn't dare install CFW or any other hack on my n3DS XL, I'm too paranoid about destroying it :yay3ds: The most hack-y thing I'll do with my n3DS XL is use it to play ROMs with an R4 card

my o3ds is still using a9lh. my n3ds is using b9s on the latest firmware. I've done everything to it, but I don't play the system ever.

What led you to that conclusion? The fix was available within hours of the update.

Even in the practically-unthinkable event that Nintendo should suddenly decide now is the time to patch all the userland exploits have been around for years, and patch all the non-userland exploits that are still usable for CFW installation, there's always ntrboot. But most people are already much more interested in using TWiLight Menu, NSUI, blacklisted flashcarts, LayeredFS, region-blocked software, CIAs, and all the other stuff you can't do with userland homebrew anyway.

Have you forgotten all the intense discussion about why booting original firmware is problematic?
...it's way easier to install cfw with ntrboot than install some userland exploit.
If you're gonna keep claiming that installing cfw is buggy, then provide some statistics for once. How many times has luma been broken vs how many userland exploits have been patched.

Absolutely – and ntrboot will always be unpatchable. (Though of course the requirement of having an ntrboot-compatible flashcart can be inconvenient.) Did you think I was suggesting the contrary?

My point was that it doesn't seem to make much sense to install cfw just to "protect access to homebrew" when there will always be some means of installing cfw.
