Question:
I have used Birb's guide to set up my Switch and installed Tinfoil.
I have my emuMMC running and with a blanked serial number.
I have not connected my emuMMC to the internet yet.
I also installed Gamecard Installer to dump my game cards to my SD card. I have done this to two games so far.
When I try to run a dumped game, I get nagged to connect to the internet to install game updates.

Is it safe to connect my emuMMC to the internet to download the update files? Or will this not worked due to my blanked serial number?
Is there another way to get these game updates? If no to both, is it possible to turn off the nag to download updates every time I start a game?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

You shouldn't update the games via the internet. Download game updates as nsp and install them with Tinfoil.

Hi, I've got an unpatched erista switch, currently running on 9.1.0 HOS. The unit has never been hacked before, and it's always been used online with legit games.

Yesterday I've succesfully runned hekate 5.3.3/AMS 0.14.4, made a backup and created two working emummcs.

I've read the faqs and followed a couple of guides, but there's still something unclear to me:

1- is it possible to "factory format" an emummc via the switch menu? Or should I use some other methods?

2- should I keep using my sysnand as always, playing online and updating it regularly via official method, and do "dirty things" on one emummc, or is it better to leave my sysnand in its current state and use two emummcs (one "clean" to be used online, and one "dirty" to be used offline)?

3- in case I want/need to update my sysnand, is it better to do it without burning fuses (to eventually restore a backup at a later time) or is it better to do it officially and dont' care about the fuses? And in this case, what should I do with the old backup? Should I trow it away and make a new one everytime I do an update, or should I somehow use the old one if I'll need it?

After updating my smash bros ultimate to version 9.0.0, I get the "The software was closed because an error occured." message right after trying to launch it.

I have already tried the following:

  • Removed all Smash Bros Mods (and anything related)
  • Fully uninstalled + Reinstalled the game (USB Install)
  • Updated atmosphere + sigpatches to latest versions
  • Booted into maintenance mode
Anyone have an idea on how to fix it?

Hekate bypasses all fuse issues, so that's probably not your issue. If you haven't already done so, follow this guide:

Thank you for your help.
Unfortunately, after following the full mmc rebuild guide and updating atmosphere I'm back in the blue screen of death (which is an improvement over the black screen of death I had before).
Any additional ideas?

Hello guys!
I have a problem to load games on my CFW and there's no way to solve it.
I had already played with my switch to serveral games using Reinx. The problem is that I wanted to change CFW with my new SD so I tried hekate+atmosphere. I could make it run but when I install games with goldLeaf there's no way to run them. When I click the game in main menu, the screen turns black and game doesn't load. There isn't any kind of error neither. So I have to force shut down. I tried to update sigpatches, change to Reinx again, reinstall NSP.... but it's always the same point here.
What could I do? Any sugestions? Thanks for your help!

I have a bit of a problem, I haven't used my Switch in awhile and just installed the Smash Bros update last night. All of a sudden though, I'm unable to open the Homebrew menu when holding the R button while launching a game to use the extra bit of ram. I can only open Homebrew when launching the Album application in handheld mode now (pro controller when plugged into the TV didn't work last night). And when I try to launch RetroArch to play roms, the Switch crashes and gives me an error code for Atmosphere: 2168-0002 (0x4a8)

My Switch is currently on version: 10.0.4|AMS 0.13.0|E
I'm using the Atmosphere fusee-primary.bin payloader

I'm not sure how to do this. Is there a tutorial/guide for how to use Tinfoil? I've looked and have not been able to find one.

With hekate/Atmosphere did you get the appropiate sig patches
is the new sd card fat32
if you are swapping back to reinx you need to do a clean install of the reinx files and sept files.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

So i just updated from Atmosphère 0.10.3 to Atmosphère 0.14.4 and then used the new daybreak to update to FW 10.2.0 but now when launching a game i get the message.....

'Could not start the software.
Please try again from the HOME Menu'.

any ideas what the issue maybe?
Update your sigpatches to the appropriate version

How do I go online to update switch games with cfw ?
Download update, install update like you do with the base game. Don't update it online. That's a ban flag.

1. i have a cfw switch and i've been told not to connect to internet/wifi (i've tried and it didn't work) so how would 90NDS work?

2. if i buy a microsd card and fill games on it would it overwrite the games's save datas that are currently in my switch and would i have to inject payload every single time i switch those micro sd cards?
  1. 90DNS prevents the console from communicating with Nintendo's servers while preserving general Internet access
  2. Games and save data are stored in two different places with no interaction between the other. You also only inject the payload when you want to boot to CFW.

  1. It is but there is no reason to do so
  2. Either option is fine. People tend to use sysMMC to go online but emuMMC is perfectly safe to go online with as long as it is clean
  3. Objectively, it is better to update without burning fuses because there is no benefit in burning fuses. Even if you do burn fuses, you can always restore your backup regardless of your current fuse count because you can always bypass the fuse check on an unpatched console.

Are you sure you are using the correct patches for your bootloader?

Thank you for your help.

Follow this guide instead.

I'm not sure how to do this. Is there a tutorial/guide for how to use Tinfoil? I've looked and have not been able to find one.
-Download latest atmosphere sigpatches from here (just search it up), copy them to switch micro sd.
- Update your atmosphere and Hekate.
-Download game nsp files from internet (Can't link them, Google them). Copy nsp files to your sd, it doesn't matter where you copy.
-Open Tinfoil, click sdmmc and find your nsp file from there. After that, click on the file.

Thank you for the info. I'll try this and if I have any further questions I'll make another post.

  • It is but there is no reason to do so

Thank you very much for your reply.
The reason would be I'd like to start a fresh emummc and I'm feeling that way should be faster than removing each installed game
and setting manually.

  • Either option is fine. People tend to use sysMMC to go online but emuMMC is perfectly safe to go online with as long as it is clean

  • Objectively, it is better to update without burning fuses because there is no benefit in burning fuses. Even if you do burn fuses, you can always restore your backup regardless of your current fuse count because you can always bypass the fuse check on an unpatched console.

So, if I choose to leave my sysMMC in its current state for a while and start using an emuMMC to go online (obviously keeping it clean), would it be possible at a later time to start using my sysMMC again, or could this lead to a ban?

if it's like most systems, once you've dirtied the nand, there's no going back. I don't think enough info is known about what nintendo can or can't see, but they seemed to have raised the bar when it comes to detection among all three of the big three. personally, I don't think a hacked system belong online period. if you get banned, don't blame anyone but yourself.
