I'd like to backup a copy of my Pokemon Platinum and Soul Silver saves using my 3DS (Its homebrewed obviously). Would it be possible through Godmode9 or Checkpoint? If so, would it mess with the original game or save at all? Are the original DS carts read only?

Yep, checkpoint works great. I actually used it to move my original DS saves to my flashcart.

Why not try it and find out..? If you think people could wreck their carts that way, don't you think the entire Internet would be echoing with the screams of people who had wrecked their carts?

Are the original DS carts read only?
Wouldn't piracy be completely trivial if people could write any ROM they wanted to any DS cart?

DS carts have a limited amount of save RAM and the rest of the cart is read-only. The same applies to 3DS carts.
