Homebrew Question Overclocking Switch Lite

So i modded with sx lite and looking to jump on the OC wagon, i removed the sheild and placed the heatpipe over the cpu/gpu directly,

looking for an easy way or profile to OC this bad boy on sx os
And monitor its temps

Each game has a different recommended profile - it depends. Some games have mods on here that will tell you which profile to use.

Dunno if you’re referring to the plate directly beneath the backplate, or the one on the SoC.
Removing the former is bad and would reduce the effectiveness of the cooling system and possibly increase interference.
The latter probably makes no diff compared to just removing the small copper plate/sticker thing.

I removed the soc honestly, because this cooling method is pure junk from nint, and put kapton over thr rams.
Switch is running cooler than before honestly

Quite the opposite, actually, it's far more effective than it'll ever need to be, especially so for Mariko.

Don't remove the large metal plate like what was done in that pic...
(It's not just disassembled or whatever, it has a clear backplate on it)

I didnt remove the big metal, i just removed the big pile of junk that is preventing from proper cooling, and the console is working perfect so far.
Either its needed or not, its far more effective when you OC and your steady at 50 C

It's actually my switch lite. It's just an interference shielding and nothing to do with cooling. Just because there's a cut out for the blower fan doesn't it's used for cooling.

FCC regulations are that a device cannot cause interference at a certain spec. They will accept any interference from whatever environment you're in. It's simple regulations.

This is for the original switch, but you can see right here the testing that's done for the switch.

It's all operating frequency and electromagnetic field ranges. The regulations are pretty strict. But in reality you're not going to interfere with anything except maybe certain extremely delicate medical equipment. Which is in a controlled environment.

They normally have a blob of paste on top of the heat pipe connecting it to the plate to distribute heat to it (unless that changed on the Lite for whatever reason(?), it's been awhile since I've seen one).
That said, after thinking about it, I doubt it really makes much of a difference (especially on Mariko, which runs very cool, as I'm sure you're aware of ).

Yeah, I think the plan on that was a dual purpose. Just to take advantage of the shielding since getting it as close as possible to the board can help in engineering the device. The main cooling is done by the heat pipe, it can at least cool the chip the fastest. I think it's why they actually have a different type of thermal paste between the heat pipe and shielding. We've talked about how efficient Mariko is, I think if someone took the time, they could come up with a totally passive cooling solution for Mariko devices. I'm old and deaf enough that the fan doesn't bother me at all haha.

As for your mod, I need to still try that. School started back up for the kids this week, so I have been busy getting all of that ready. I do have the switch next to me so I'll go ahead and load that mod up now and do some testing over the next couple of days. Thanks!

Zach modified sys-clk so it can run the GPU at 921mhz while on battery mode, which you can normally only run a max of half that on battery mode (462mhz). With his mod you can run 921mhz whether you're plugged in or on battery.

Tested on a Switch light, but should theoretically work on any Mariko based device. View attachment exefs.7z

If it's working on the Lite, it'll work on any Mariko device
I just do this (it was a bit different in that build, but it worked about the same)

Then used the returned value to determine if the clocks should be limited

If you're running Mariko you're not really going to have any issues. We've had some discussions on what the temps could be, but on my own switch lite (the smoke clear Switch lite posted above in this thread). I run my switch lite 24/7 at 1.7ghz cpu, 921mhz gpu, and 1600mhz memory clock.

The highest temperature I've ever been able to observe is 50.x°C. I've never hit 51°C as the fan will ramp up to the high 30's% and will keep the chip hovering around this temp. (Using Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition as testing. I'll probably install the 60fps mod at some point to try and ramp up the temps even more if possible).

Even at 50, let's say something happens and I get it up to 60°C, it's still WELL below the temp at which the chip starts throttling. IIRC it's 83°C it starts throttling. With a tjmax of 90°C.
