The creators of "Among Us" are planning on making an "Among Us 2" of sorts, nothing offical yet, but they said if they did (and after the servers die out), they would make the first Among Us open-source. Does that mean that a homebrew 3DS port could be possible?

I think it would be a really neat title to homebrew because of the Task minigames where you have to slide stuff around and tap keypads and stuff. I feel like that would be interesting to play. Plus Cross-Platform online compatibility between versions would be hella fun.

If you dont know what I'm talking about, click the link here to visit the steam page for the game >>> https://store.steampowered.com/app/945360

And here for the itch.io post explaining what I described here >>> https://itch.io/devlog/171026/among-us-2.amp

It doesn't have to be created, I'm just wondering if it would be possible, and if not, what about the WiiU or Switch (with the touchscreen minigames being played on the gamepad on WiiU and a gyro (when on tv) or touchscreen (when undocked) for Switch)?

Cheers! :grog:

Open source is merely the beginning of if it can even be done. You would then need to find someone or someones that are actually willing to put in however much time is needed to get everything ported which can be a very difficult process.

Understandable, but I was mostly just wondering if it could be possible, not wether or not it someone would do it.

Mostly on like a "can the 3DS run the game with it's underpowered hardware?" type deal, you know?

Among Us is made with Unity.

I don't know which version of unity the developers used, but i guess with some work it can be adapted to work with the version that has 3DS support. Then you'd have to adapt all the mouse events to the touchpad, which i think it's fairly easy since the way unity handles buttons and such is cross-compatible between android, pc and 3DS's touchscreen as far as i've experienced. It's some work but it sounds doable

Now there's the online shenaniganz, this game without online support is useless. I don't know if its possible to make a cross-play between 3DS and PC, or even if it's possible to make a game that uses online servers at all without breaking some part of the nintendo NDA that gives you the developer kit in the first place. Second-worst case scenario would be making a local multiplayer non-crossplayable version for 3DS. Worst being no multiplayer possible.

So unless you are willing to go thru all that trouble, it's unlikely someone will do it because as much as it's a popular game on twitch and such right now, it doesn't have the timeless appeal that games like SM64 or Doom have, which do get ported everywhere by extremly talented and dedicated people

Possible if you have the source code and files. Although, why? I mean, you could just play it on a phone. Even a 7yr old phone i have runs it. It would probably not run very well and typing in the 3DS isn't exactly the best experience.

Why not?

You can play Cave Story for free on the PC, not because it prevented someone from making a port for Sega Genesis, you can play Sonic 1 on any platform today, nor for that reason prevented a Brazilian from porting it to the Super Nintendo. It would be interesting to see a game like this running on 3DS, I would particularly love to play it, 3DS is one of my main consoles today, the more game alternatives for it the better for me, I hate playing on Smartphones and not even emulators I put in it, they just aren't a good gaming option for me.

have you played this game? its needs a lot of typing. Playing on 3DS would imply texting a lot slower/less than the mobile/PC players, and that could hinder your chances of convincing people and stuff. Your cave story example makes me think you were not aware of this. Cave story doesn't imply texting in any point, it can be played with a Dpad and a few buttons.

According to the devs a simple change (specifically they were talking about new DLC) would break the game because the code is apparently a total mess. That's not something you'd like to port...
Also, by the time someone finishes the port Among Us 2 will be out and nobody will care.
It's doable, but i don't think it's worth it. If you wanna play it on the go, use a phone.

I'm just saying that we need more 3ds game ports. The only good ones are DDLC, Half-Life, Quake 1-2-3-Open Arena, FNaF 1 (*and soon to be) 2*, and 3*, Halo Revamped and Doom. I just feel that the 3ds should go out with a bang, y'know? I mean, it was the one of the longest lasting consoles. Ya get me? And, about the text problem, you could use voice chat or make it local playable. or make the typing like Ice Station Z, where you can open a app in game and type while the game is running.

You can say all ya want. unless devs have the source code and the willing time to put into any of these. Then there aint nothing thats gonna happen.

But, we need someone who will actually port it. I vote that it should happen.
Ahh, yes, through democracy all things are possible, eh? Maybe you should create a Kickstarter! That always works!

Halo Revamped is a Quake mod, not a port. And FNaF and DDLC are remakes coded from scratch, not ports.

i might get some shit for this, but the 3ds offers a better typing experience than any phone by virtue of the stylus, sure, some phones do have it, but not all, it might just be me, but i type faster and more accurately on 3ds than on phone

among us 2 got cancelled. This thread is now pointless.
Considering the 3DS has been discontinued, yes. Otherwise it'd be cool to get in touch with the devs and ask them to collaborate and make a 3DS port of the game during the rework they'll do. All legal and stuff, with their permission, of course.

Wouldn't that make them lose money? And reworking a game for a dead console doesn't seem like the brightest idea... But idk

that was exactly my point, 3DS "is dead" so no point in porting it. About money i dunno, if the port is done by some external colaborator that's willing to work for a reasonably low fee.. i dunno if i was the developer of among us i'd let the guy go ahead and port my game, just to keep the hype rolling

Anyways, it's not happening guys. Among us 2 is cancelled, therefore the source code will not leak anytime soon. Thread is pointless now
