If you did look at the screenshot that was posted it says possible firmware out of the box is 4.0.1, not 100% guarantees.

Dude...how should we know that? Send a payload and wait what happens. If the screen stays black, it is patched. But your serial is in the green region. And if your unit is unpatched, the firmware doesn't matter. Fusée Gelée doesn't care about it.

Don't go around downgrading your unit, you would give yourself more headache than what you wanted, since it is unpatched you can push a payload regardless of its firmware.

You have several ways to push the payload, a payload dongle, modchip like Trinket M0, from a phone, from a computer etc, if using a phone or computer you need usb to usb c cable.
