My switched had a bad P13USB and I replaced it. While fixing that chip, I broke plastic batter clip. I replaced it and was able to get the switch to work. It worked for 3 days and then it stopped. I noticed one of the new connector’s connections wasn’t soldered well. So, I resoldered it started starting to the Nintendo Switch logo and dies. I was trying to diagnose what was causing it and now it doesn’t boot all together. I found the resistor circled here missing. I was wondering what’s this resistor for? What’s its value? Will it cause the boot up issues? Does anyone have the schematics? Thank you

I'm not sure what it's for, but I think that is in the battery fuel gauge circuit. It might cause the booting problem you are having. I measured it on one of my donor boards, and it seems to be 100Kohm.

You used hot air, to remove the battery connector ?, maybe you created solder bridge under the fuel gauge ic, if you already lost the resistor, inspect under microscope .
Inspect if the batery connector is soldered ok.

Thank you, I will check the IC. The connector is fine. Any idea how to check if I created a solder bridge?

Thank you, I will give that a shot

Did you use a support for the mb, or you just put the mb on a table ? Try to loock in an angle, very hard to see, if you can better remove , reball just 9 balls 0.25 mm, but first just replace the resistor and test all tracks from battery connector to the test point with a multimeter.

Great thank you for the tip. What do you mean by re-ball? Also, can you please point out these tracks/test pads with the battery connector. I don’t have schematics so I am kind of operating blind. I appreciate your help, thank you

Was able to solder back the resistor. The issue persists! I checked the current through a USB ammeter and it’s constant at 0.45amp. It never went to zero to boot up. Any other ideas to consider? Does anyone have the schematics to check for continuity near the battery?

Reball = remove a bga ic, clean the old solder, put new solder balls, reflow the ic back to the board, i just asuming you shorted the batery ic under the batery conector on the botom of the bord becouse you didn't use something to keep the board flat and rised and you just put it on a table, i could bee wrong so ignore that for the moment, and you need a microscope for this job.

Mb suport example https://www.aliexpress.com/item/329...earchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_

So folow the traces from the batery connector to the test pad, pads , and use a multimeter in diode/ continuity mode put one probe to one pin of the batery conector to the test pad especialy to the withe one related to batery detection.

Post some good pictures around the batery charging ic and the botom side of the board.

Test with batery removed.

I'm not responsable if you do more damage using my sugestions.

Can you test voltages? do you have a multimeter ?

Appreciate your recommendation and will try it. How do you know which bad relates to which pin on the connector?

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze

    so..... yeah

we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
