I just installed retroarch on my 3ds(old model) and tried running pokemon emerald. Although it is playable, it isn't running at full speed because the character is moving slower than normal. How do I fix this?

unfortunately, on an old 3ds, gba emulation will always be about half speed.

only way to play gba games at full speed is virtual console injects.
i believe some of the pokemon games aren't entirely compatible with that though

They all work fine using injection according to the compatibility list. The only problem is with emerald due to there being bad dumos of it on the net. https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Custom_GBA_Compatibility_List

I have a ds lite with r4. Would an emulator on ds lite run at full speed? To be specific, I am looking for an emulator that uses save states so that I can beat the battle frontier

no save states... you'll be lucky if it normal-saves properly. might need an sram patch or something to get it to save normally. buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuttttttttttt……. it runs full speed

i think pksm has recently added support for vc injects.
if you wanna use safestates to beat frontier, you might as well hack yourself some great/impossible pokemon to do it

I know the ds lite can run gba cartrdiges natively. Is there an application on r4 that will allow me to use save states and cheats on a gba cartridge?

Only way to play GBA on O3DS are VC inject or GBArunner2 Believe me i tried every other choice.

Personally i like GBArunner2 because i have all my GBA games in a single home icon. It seems like unnecesary bloat to have a dozen icons for each game when i could... not have them.

If you care too much about savestates and cheats and such well i'm sorry, you're outta luck. I'm happy without them

A ds lite is using gba hardware to play gba games, not emulation. As such, there are no save states available. You can use just about any pc emulator, or many mobile ones as well which do have save states, or injecting games into the VC releases may give you save states as well. (I’ve never played the gba VC ones, so I’m unsure of they feature save states like the other VC games do.)

EDIT: sorry I didn’t see the other posts, this Tapatalk app is terrible. Looks like you don’t get save states on VC games either for gba though.

Buy a gba flashcart such as EZ-Flash Omega as it has save states

It's using the GBA hardware built into the 3DS so yes, stable and fullspeed. The autor has not released it yet likely due to needing polish here and there but in my tests it was pretty much perfect.
