Hello I am trying to play this hacked rom http://metroidconstruction.com/hack.php?id=381 . Which needs to use HDNes packs on the MESEN emulator, Is there any way to use this on the switch?

I am using retroarch.

Thanks in advance.

I have played it but it is very slow. Works just like HD packs for other emulator. Just place in correct directory and turn on correct options in emulator. It is kinda sensitive to the rom you use. So make sure you check hash. But something is up. It seems to run very slow. Maybe a dev see this and fixes it. I even tried a scaled down pack with same results. But give it a try. My test was a few versions back.

I was no able to apply the HD packs, I am new to retroarch. But since it doesn't works well I won't bother.

Thank you for answering.

OK, I hate to rain on the parade, but I don't see any point of these on anything that isn't a high end PC.

And, really...it's just 16-bit sprites mirrored over the OG sprites...

...I guess I don't see the appeal of playing the OG Metroid like this (let alone at all in the first place with better Metroid games and to play these games the way they were originally intended on the NES hardware as close as an NES emulator can get. Is MESEN the bsnes/higan of NES emulators? I know there's MESEN-S) when we have Zero Mission.

Because i have played every other metroid but the orginal.

Well, that's fine, but I wouldn't say your experience would be considered "legit" if you're using what looks like a mod in addition to the graphics mod that gives you full health from the start.

I mean, I don't care myself, it's just, if I wanted to play the original Metroid, I prefer to play Zero Mission, ya' know?

That being said, I might try that one romhack one day for the OG Metroid where its some weird prequel starring Samus out of her suit wielding a gun? Zero Dawn or something if I remember right?

False, I'm the one who ported Mesen to HOS and it is fullspeed for all games, it is just HDNes not performing that great for some games, although Metroid HD is fullspeed with minor audio crackling on the lastest nightly.

I see. I personally haven't followed NES emulation because there's a lot of projects that were up back in the day on Zophar's Domain (can't say for sure if those are still up on the site as it's changed drastically from what it used to be). Would you say that higan or Mesen is better for NES emulation if one wants to prioritize "accuracy" that a high end PC like what I'm using nowadays can afford?

Higan would be best on PC, while Mesen is the better option on consoles. its not to say Mesen isn't better on PC, but higan has more functionality.,

Personally I don't really see the point to anything more accurate than Nestopia, especially on portable/non-PC systems like the Switch.

Neither do I see the benefits to debating over simple game preference. It's me and Tales of Phantasia all over again.

Not answering your original question, but a tangent that may offer a better experience. Have you played Metroid Zero Mission? It's essentially the original but with GBA/SNES graphics, a map, and an extended ending. Highly recommend playing that instead unless you're set on the 'original' experience.

No, never played zero mission, I will try it.
