Probably not. I'd rather keep the console as close to its original state as possible. Also removing the copper layer could actually worsen thermal performance if the cooler's mounting pressure is not enough, and I don't intend to test that.
It for sure is a computer.

Only reason it would be better to spread in this case is because it doesnt have a plate to screw down to get alot of pressure for it to spread out properly.
just saying theres enough pressure for the cooler to be mounted without the 1-2mm copper foil

I know no one could answer for sure, but how safe is it really to buy from aliexpress? This would actually be a good option for me, but on xecuter's site it says not to buy from aliexpress, only from the list of trusted resellers they have on the site. Why would they say that? What is a chance of a scam here? I kinda wonder why doesn't team xecuter have some trusted store on aliexpress to sell stuff there, since it would be a convenient place to buy for a lot of pepole.

Also, something else i wanted to ask for a long time. They said they're making fixes now to the chip based on a feedback from testers. Now, these fixes arent't hardware ones, are they? I mean, the chip itself is gonna stay the way it is, the updates are gonna be strictly software? Because who knows, maybe the earlier version of the chip has a bigger chance to damage your console or smth like that.
the fixes are software based they already had the hardware down just needed os tested.

also just buy from aliexpress they will refund you if anything goes awry, most of tx's trusted sellers got hit or ramped up the price so i wouldnt trust anyway

Hi, the manual says that the metal shield must be cut in order to fit the chip but without giving much details. Is it really necessary (say if you don't plug the usb debug port) and are there pics available?

yes its requires for flex cable to go from the cpu to the actual mod chip. you can see it in all the install videos

Actually this guy didn't put back the metal shield that covers the CPU and the RAMs before the heat pipe? Is it possible to do that?

I would recommend you to buy from resellers that are on tx site . I bought mine on triada-service . And speaking about chip fixes : the update is software and they will be only software not hardware ( as far as I know) so you can buy this chip now. On the other hand there are people that can make similar chip and sell it for less price or maybe do a software hack BUT nobody knows when they do it or will they do it . So I think you should buy this chip .

Hi @Akira , tnx for the link (#msg1015), just ordered 2 days ago and the package is already on its way... yay!
Since i'm a newbie here without the option to send private messages, could you please update once you get your package?

Also did you (or anyone else on this matter) noticed there are two versions of sx core mode chips (as seen in pictures in messages #981-V1 and #982-V2) ? what are the additional differences except the modchips size?

v1 is for erista(unpatched) v2 is, for the v2(mariko)

anybody succesfully soldered a v2 using normal iron and magnifying glass?

at first on the installation videos i've watched, it looks easy and i'm confident to do that myself. but after more images shows up about how tiny it is, i'm not sure i can do that or not. it's quite tiny.. is it easy to do even its tiny ? the logic is u just need to push the tina bit so that it touchs the transistor, that's all.. u dont even need to actually solder it right ?

can you share your experiences ?

oh...K, nice to know.

So now I wonder if the shipped package from aliexpress has v1 or v2 since it as not mentioned in the store page other then SX core or SX lite.....hopefully it is V2...

I think SX CORE both has the flex cable for V1 and V2

My Core arrived today but I'm going to be unable to get my hands on a Switch until next week. Can anyone who has already installed one tell me what size tip you used on your soldering iron? I'm pretty sure my current iron isn't good enough so I'm going to buy a new one but I'm not sure which size to get. I'm looking at 0.5 mm tips currently.

Wish I had that problem, I have two consoles but no chips. :)

Pretty sure 0.5 to 0.8 mm tips would be okay. Mine is 0.6 or 0.7 and it seems to fit pretty good.
