I am not Nancy. This is not a joke. Is the PS5 hardware powerful enough to emulate the Nintendo Switch? I'm planning to buy a launch PS5 and keep it in a cupboard for a few years.

If these guys modded GBAtemp, everyone would be banned in a day.

Don't speak out of line, lest you be nuked off the site. :teach:

Care to do this possible?

This is a good question that should get a serious answer, isn't the PS5 comparable to some "gameing" PC that's able to emulate switch games well? I think it's possible even if it won't be running perfectly and at full speed

hardware power wise, yes, given that its roughly using a ryzen 3700 and likely a higher end(not top) graphics based on RDNA2 architecture. But of course, no work on it is in development, and I dont think any team is actively working on a switch retroarch core. and then you have to find the people who iron out the bugs of said core and fix things. Though I would not buy a PS5 for the sake of emulation. If you actually want emulation, then a PC generally should be first and foremost a priority since most top end development will almost always be PC first.

Consider the following, the PS5 isn't even out yet and who knows how long it's going to take to hack, plus the time it's going to require to make decent homebrew. You are better off just buying a Switch if you are expecting to enjoy Switch games any time soon.

That's like asking if a Virtex UltraScale+ VU19P would be able to cycle accurately emulate switch hardware.
The answer being yes; but not until someone puts the time and a truckload of effort into it. The question being is it worth the effort and the price :-)

powerful enough != easily accomplished

Serious then. The better question would be, if the PS5 is even hackable.

Sure it might not be hacked for a good few years but that doesn't mean it's impossible and that you can't discuss what kind of homebrew software and emulators would be possible

I agree, but Switch might be a little too farfetched. Would love to see that, though. The more the better.

I think the better option here would be to wait and have someone build a pc with about the same specs as the ps5. Then test yuzu on it.If it runs well then its a sure fire bet that it will run well on the ps5, assuming someone is willing to make a yuzu port or a retroarch core

I hate to be "that guy" but if the PS4 isn't currently cracked on the latest firmware what makes you think a Launch PS5 would be? Hardware wise a PS4 can do the job but the devs on there can't even get a proper dolphin emulator working on it.

You are better off investing your $ in a gaming computer for emulation.

If I told you "yes," what would that do for you? Would you hold off on purchasing a Switch, wait for the PS5 to come out and then wait for who knows how long (could be years, maybe even a decade) for it to be hacked, and then wait another few years for a Switch emulator to come to the PS5? If you want to play Switch games just go buy a Switch or Switch Lite, you wont break the bank, and you wont have to wait upwards of 10 years, maybe even longer before you can share in the joy that Switch players are experiencing right now.

Why would you spend several hundred to put something in a cupboard for several years instead of just buying a Switch for a couple hundred now?

You have no other options, a ps5 in near future will be hacked, so we need to buy it and place it on hold keeping the stock fw without any updates. I am gonna do same thing, at leats 2 ps5 for personal use plus another one to keep it on box.

Wouldn't it be better to get a PS4 complete Jailbreak at EOL?
