Hey, I’ve been out of the loop for a while. I modded my Wii U like 2 years ago and installed the “deepest” mod at the time, which was coldboot haxchii. I would like to know if there is something better that came out after that. Also, since I lost my files on my sd card (I’m only loading the modified sysnand from CBHaxchii) I would like to know where I can get the files necessary back for my sd card, since I want to install new modded channels. TIA

Not sure on the latter but I am pretty sure there’s nothing better than CBHC since it came out.
I’m not sure what you mean by better as coldboot to cfw is about as good as it gets right?

What is wrong with cbhc? It gives you signaturepatches after powering on the console. More is not needed.

While more isn't needed necessarily,it would appear that another solution is indeed being worked on. @Maschell is working toward a new solution that will give us more freedom with the Wii U, like the idea is to have more flexible control over what the system can do via homebrew. In a way, similar to what can be done with the Mocha or Haxchi CFWs, but without their limitations, so plugins from coldboot, larger homebrew sizes, running multiple homebrews simultaneously, simpler installation and updates, etc.

If I'm understanding his blog posts correctly, the likes of CBHC as it is now, will not allow for what he's working toward to work properly, and thus a different exploit will be needed. He mentions a Mario Kart 8 exploit he's uncovered, I'm not sure if this will be the only way to get into this new homebrew environment that he's working toward or not, but it appears that it is a method that gives the proper access he needs.

While there's nothing really wrong with it a boot0 exploit (like on the 3ds) would be the holy grale. It would allow CFW to boot before FW and make CFW development more simple.

Do you have a link to that blog, please?

Read this. But it is not interesting because it is a warmboot. And what we want is a coldboot (like cbhc). Means the steps would be as follows:
  1. Turn on the console
  2. Hold "B" to enter Wii mode
  3. This now loads a payload, which creates a modified PRSH / PRST structure, encrypts it and restarts the console
  4. Voila! CFW!
And this this would delay the boot process because the wii u is not the fastest console.

Thanks for the readup. In theory we could transform this to coldboot with the exploits CBHC is using, couldn't we? Yes I know, longer boot time but I wonder why nobody at least tried something in that direction.

//EDIT: If you don't understand what I try to say: It would still be semi-warmboot: The CBHC exploits would run code to inject the pointer to NULL as well as the code at memory address 0x00000000 and reboot.

Obviously coldbooting is much preferred over warm boot, but that by no means, means that what he's working toward isn't interesting. In fact i find it very interesting, one of the most promising new things coming to the Wii U scene.

Furthermore, Maschell has confirmed that this new method will lead to the ability to load plugins from coldboot, so i’m pretty sure his solution definitely has an end game of being able to coldboot not just warm boot.

And this is actually the blog I was referencing: https://maschell.github.io
