Anyone know if the emmc is married to the motherboard? I am wanting to swap one out of my non-working Switch to a new one I bought if possible.:)

Why you swapping it?
I was just thinking about it mostly because of all the game saves. Not sure if I can do it anyways now that I think more about it. My old one has motherboard issues and it turns on but the screen stays black. I sent it to 2 different places for repair but no one can fix it.

Probably a dead SoC then.

The data in the eMMC is married to the Switch. You can just restore your NAND backup to another emmc/emmc board (like the ones in eBay) and it will be fine. I did this with my 256gb emmcs.
Will that work even if it is in a different switch? I mean like, using a nand back up from one switch in a different switch?

It won't work on another switch because the eMMCs are encrypted with the keys of a specific Switch. The other Switch would not be able to open any of the files inside the overwritten eMMC.

What about a motherboard? Would I be able to purchase a motherboard that comes with an emmc and swap everything else out to make a usable switch console? I'm just trying to find something to do besides sending it to Nintendo for repairs. I have seen motherboards online for purchase.

You must make a move of Tegra SoC and eMMC to make the motherboard functional. Possible wifi chipset but I'm not sure....

If you dumped your keys from the broken console while it was working, you can extract the save data from the NAND backup. There is a tool that will extract all save data from a backup.

Yes, changing the entire motherboard will definitely work as long as it comes with its original emmc, and assuming the emmc hasn't been wiped.
I have no backup. Can I change new emmc in the switch?
No as other people are saying, without the data that was stored on the original emmc, you can't swap in a new one.
