I’ve been selling CFW PS3s on eBay for a minute now and they’ve suddenly gone into some holy war against mod menus and game backups. Does anyone know of another reliable site I can sell them?

Just leave it a week and relist, try to word it now vaguely too!
My modded consoles always get taken down, I don't even sell with games I sell for homebrew!

Just don't go selling backup, unless you want a lawsuit from Sony over copyright intellectual properties.

Its nowhere near "suddenly". They've been doing it for years and years. Its against their ToS, and selling backup games is illegal. No reason anyone can justify being upset.

Sony doesn’t own the copyright to the games. The game makers do. Not all of them are still in business, so no worries about them. Those which are still in business required to send a cease and desist from a court before there is ever some type of lawsuit.

To make it more complicated, if you include the discs with the console there is nothing they legally can do.

The part with eBay that really gets me is they say it’s because it allows someone to use pirated software, which is the same with every computer/laptop ever made.

And now I’m on a three day ban lol.

You could install OFW 3.55 and have the buyer install CFW instead.

this seems like the best option. if it's not on 3.55, downgrade and install ofw. or just leave it on ofw 4.85 and have the seller do the work to get cfw installed. maybe just put the minverchk firmware in description. sku won't matter, since there are frankensteins out there.

I did buy an already hacked nes mini (w/ games) on ebay, but the person really messed up, so I undid it and hacked it myself. for some reason, mega man 4-6 all had mega man 4 artwork. it took a while to set everything just right, but it's done.

Selling modded consoles is worse than just piracy, people who want a hacked console should do it themselves, so then they know how the console was hacked and what has been done with console, I see a lot of people who buy pre-hacked consoles and have nothing but trouble with them because they don't understand how it was hacked or what you can or cannot do with the console.

this used to be a big problem with 360s. originally, the upgrading apps wouldn't tell you anything about a NAND build, so you'd need to know hacking method and motherboard (perhaps other things as well). using the wrong thing would brick the system. not permanent, it can be fixed, but you had to reflash manually by opening up the system.

You can install CFW on the lastest firmware
I got the impression that CFW was the culprit for the listing being flagged. If the console is on 3.55 OFW, then the buyer would only have to download and install the latest CFW. It would be quicker and easier than using PS3Xploit.

This.

eBay is pretty much against piracy even though there are loads of bootleg DVDs and countless fake GBA games. Probably DS too.

This is true. I got my 3DS XL hacked and even though I don't understand most of the features, I get along okay with installing games at the very least. And converting them.

Yeah just don't sell that kind of things >_>
As an example: "PS3 Slim 250GB with Official Firmware 3.55, Very Good Condition"

That would be fine. It wouldn't be taken down.

Those who want to an easy to hack PS3 would go for this.

3.55 doesn’t matter anymore. Downgrading is a waste of time. First thing I usually do is install HFW4.85 and go from there.

That said, I did just get a CECHA01 on OFW 3.50. Last time it was used for a game was 2010. I probably won’t hack this console just cause it’s hardly been used.

Why? I’m helping people of lesser experience have a formidable system and superior game play, while saving PS3 consoles from being bricked. I know the SJW in you hates it, but nothing is made for the PS3 anymore. No games. No controllers. No systems. Providing backup copies of games which are no longer in production does NOT effect the maker. You can’t go into a GameStop and buy new games. Maybe in the third party market you can (in fact I’ve got some great games still sealed for PS3 ie Walking Dead Collectors Edition & No More Hero’s: Red Zone), but mainstream retailers no longer carry them. I mentioned earlier about a possible lawsuit, but now that I think about it, one of the conditions is it must create a hardship for the maker by reducing their income. Since they no longer make or sell the games, it will be impossible to prove this.

PS4 is a different story, it’s still in production and games are still being made for about 3-5 more years. Then it too will be dead. Until then, I don’t mess with them, except to play for myself.

Doesn't make it more legal. Especially not if you happen to include games.

Also they do still sell games for ps3 through the PSN store.

Unless you're somehow including a hdd big enough to include EVERY PS3 title ever, the end user still has to figure out how to a. find those games and b. how to get them working on a CFW system... tasks probably impossible to anyone lacking the basic knowledge to hack the console themselves. I'm with those here that believe that soft mods should be the responsibility of the end user.

I'm all for modders selling hardmodded systems, as hard mods require a skillset and tools not everyone possesses, but softmod sellers are in that same scummy territory as those selling fully loaded/configured retropi's for many times what the hardware costs. What's your mark-up on a soft modded PS3 opposed to how much a non-exploited one costs you?

I once sold a PSTV with a 64GB card on eBay and if I recall, I never mentioned anything about the backups, but I did private message him about it and how to transfer them. He either got along with it or wiped it.
