I recently wanted to Update my Nintendo Switch Firmware and got a bit of complications with it. Long story short: I saved my Micro SD Card Data with all my games on the PC and format my SD new.

With the new formatted SD card I updated my Switch. After I was on 9.1.0 I tried to copy the games from my micro SD Card folder from the PC to my micro SD.
Non of the games will start and Even if I tried to install a new NSP, the same problem comes up.

„Unable to start software. Return to the HOME menu and try again.“

Oddly I can install the Homebrew Menu NSP but that’s it.
And yes i added the sigpatches.
I really hope you guys can help me.

Nintendo Switch: 9.1.0
Atmosphere: 0.10.2
Goldleaf 0.8.0

Hi Op

Have you try to boost with fusee not hekate?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Alao please try this too
https://github.com/Joonie86/hekate/..._patches_02_12_2020_bootconfig_tinfoilv8+.zip

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Op for your setup have you try to use Tinfoil instead of goldleaf?.

I Tried it with fusee and it doesn’t work.
I also tried to install tinfoil but if I wanna start it it installs a application on the home menu and I can’t start things from the home menu (except the HB Menu NSP).

I tried it with a other SD and same result.
My SD Setup on the website is: Minimal, Atmosphere (Kosmos), Signature Patches (ES/ACID), Homebrew Menu, Goldleaf and Hekate. I tried this with 2 different SDs and same result. What am I missing? I really don’t get it.

Could be your previous problem with update may be?. Can you initialise system or may be try to use Choinx to update 9.1 again?.

„Unable to start software. Return to the HOME menu and try again.“

ye... I had the same problem when I updated my emuNand.
It was impossible for me to launch anything.
Got the same message like you.

I had to downgrade to 8.1.0 again so my emuNand was actually usable again lol

Seems to be a problem with fw 9.1.0 and Atmos.

On 8.1.0 and the newsest Atmos version everything is fine.
But on 9.1.0 nothing works anymore.

It’s because you need to update your sig patches to play your pirated games.

Even with the newest sigpatches:
The Homebrew menu NSP doesn't launch „Unable to start software. Return to the HOME menu and try again.“
My legit BOTW catrige doesn't launch „Unable to start software. Return to the HOME menu and try again.“
My legit bought eshop copy of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 doesn't launch „Unable to start software. Return to the HOME menu and try again.“

Nothing pirated... How to you explain this, smartass?

The quickest way to get more details about a problem is to incorrectly assume the missing details, the user will be sure to correct you and provide whatever details are needed.

Anyway, the issue is that the archive bit on the folders inside of Nintendo/Contents/registered got removed when you copied the files to your PC and back to your SD. Any digital games won’t start and any games with updates on the SD card also won’t start. Open the Nintendo/Contents/registered folder on your PC, select all the folders inside, open properties, go to the Advanced section and make sure Archive box has a check in it (not a filled in box, but a check. You may need to clear the box and then re-check it).

How did you know this ? I would've never guessed

I have a Backup of my old MicroSD Card but I got a lot of complications with it, so I deleted everything on it and formatted my MicroSD Card new from ExFat to FAT32 because everyone recommended it and putted fresh new Files from SDSetup.com on a fresh new formatted MicroSD Card.

If I go to Nintendo/Contents I see 2 Folders „placehld” and „registered“ and Additional 2 Files „private“ and „privat1”.
„placehld” is completely empty and the folder „registered“ has 4 folders: 0000003E, 0000005C, 00000037, 00000068.
All of them are empty inside.
I have two options to check the Archive Box.
SD: If I select „placehld” and „registered“ and open properties there both unchecked on Archive.
PC: If I copy „placehld” and „registered“ from my MicroSD to my PC, so I get the option to go to the advanced section and I can check from there the Archive box.
Either way the same Error occurs if I start the console in CFW.

I'm not a native English speaker so my console error message isn’t in English as well, but I tried to translate it.

„The data on this microSD card is incorrect and cannot be used.

The incorrect data will be deleted.

The console will then restart. (Paused software will be closed.) Saved data, screenshots, videos and other data that is not Nintendo Switch data will be deleted. Remove the microSD card if you don't want to use it with this console.“

Followed with a button that says „Delete“.

I can either delete and the console restarts with unchecked Folders or I can take out the SD card which solves nothing.
