I have never once in my entire life used or seen a Vita in real life. I heard its pretty good when you homebrew it and that's what I plan on doing with it if I decide to get a Vita.

Is it good game-wise or hardware-wise? Like what emulators work on it (preferably full-speed)? Or maybe i'll get a PSP (apparently I already have one in my house that i've never known or seen)

Homebrew wise, the vita is kinda barren, but you do get all of the excellent PSP mode homebrew with GBA emulation almost perfect and some N64 games playable with daedalusx64. Natively, the only notable emulator seems to be retroarch. The vita has tons of anime games, if you're into that. there's also a few PS2 and PS3 ports. Plus all PSP and PSX games. The hardware is pretty great, the controls are nice, the screen is good although preferably get the older phat model, the OLED panel really makes stuff like anime games pop.

So should I get a Vita or a PSP? As stated surprisingly we already have one I just have never known about it or seen it. I mean what's the difference between the two hardware-wise.

Vita has MUCH better analog sticks, and the chassis is also larger and rounder and therefore a bit more comfortable. The screen on both the Slim and Phat model is much better than the PSP's screen. Take a look through its library, there's tons of niche, hidden gems there. Battery life's pretty good, at least on the slim model. Oh and for all it matters the speakers on the slim model are really great

Hm...how much would I have to pay for one? It has to be pretty cheap nowadays compared to when it was first released. Still considering trying out a PSP however since we already have one.

the vita can do everything which the PSP can.

here is homebrew on the Vita:-

Then why did Sony pay to manufacture 2 of the basically the same gaming devices?

its not the same in power. its just the cpu architecture but with more horse power and better design.

look at the games which vita has. if you got the money go for it imo.

no. not really can your psp play vita games and homebrew?

Dude I have never heard of this PSP until like last night. Lemme tell you...if its been sitting in my house rotting away then its probably on a firmware so old that homebrew will be a snap.

If you plan to hack it , then it might be worth to get one, PS Vita has a large library on RPG games if you are into them.

I'm not really into RPG games much. The only thing that I actually like that's an RPG is D&D if you know that acronym.

Should you get a Vita? Hmm, let me think...hold on...almost there.... brain almost got through the cryptographical encryption.
The answer: YES!

But it depends on what you want and like. No one can decide it for yourself. Why do I have a Vita myself:

Beautiful oled screen, which is pleasure to watch movies, series and to play games on it.
Design looks very nice, top notch and much nicer than Vita Slim
Games are fun to play too. FIFA for Vita is very nice than FIFA for PSP. But of course those two devices has each possibilities and different games to each other.

Definitely worth getting - I got one last year, not long after getting a Switch, and I'd say I've used them about equally.

The Vita might not have that many exclusive games, but the ones it does have are decent - I've been impressed by Killzone: Mercenary and Resistance: Burning Skies, plus it has a great selection of JRPGs if you're into those, and then of course there's PSP and PSX backwards compatibility.

It looks nice, it's comfortable to hold, the controllers are good, the screen is nice (even better on the 'fat' Vitas as they have OLED screens) and the battery life is decent, plus Henkaku opens up a lot of possibilities if you want to go the CFW route.

Also, if you have a PS4, the ability to remote play on Vita is really, really useful.

I've probably spent twice as much time the past 5 years playing my Vita over my PS4 & PSVR; in my opinion it's worth buying a vita now just for the GTA Native patch with dual analogs alone, allowing you play Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories PSP games on a hacked Vita in native resolution...

I've had an absolute blast the past 2 months playing through these games, absolutely amazing work from theflow. Such a shame Rockstar couldn't have done this when the Vita was released, Sony might have shifted a few more units then, haha

Also recently played through some PS1 classics on my Vita; Tony Hawks 2 & 3, Tekken 3, Rollcage, Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Cross

That's ignoring the Vita library, which is pretty damn vast; Oddworld Strangers Wrath, Salt And Sanctuary, Senran Kagura, YS VIII, Killzone, Unit 13, Odin Sphere, Uppers, Shakedown Hawaii

I used to have a hacked PSP, currently have a Switch and 3DS. I have been eyeing a Vita because I am a big fan of FPS games and Killzone Mercenary looks better than anything on the 3ds. Plus in some of the YouTube Vita hack videos that show that you can play Counter Strike as well as Half Life. and Emulate a ton of other systems. So I am on the hunt for a Vita close to me to pick up.

I have a vita I barely play it... if you are big on handhelds then try to see if you like it. It has to do more if you are a handheld player or a console guy. I'm a console guy but I do find myself playing my switch more than my vita

I like both about the same. I injured my back and have found myself with more time on my hands, or in Doctor's offices. So to have something that has a little more options would be nice. I have an XBox one with a ton of stuff, but haven't gotten gold for a minute, so some of the stuff is gimped, since I am not gold'n. But I don't want to hack my XBox One. The Killzone Mercenary game looks closer on par with something between a 360 game or a One game, where the 3ds stuff while fun doesn't have the oomph!

I like some of the PS One games like Syphon Filter or the first Metal Gear Solid on the PS One.
