Hacking What the heck am I doing wrong? - R4i Plus

So I just bought an R4i Plus to go along with a New 2DS XL and I've been following the instructions here: 3ds.hacks.guide/installing-boot9strap-(ntrboot)
I skipped the flash because the card already has it preflashed (supposedly) and I've made sure that the switch is in NTR boot mode. I've followed the instructions, but when I do the whole power + start + select + x with the magnet thing, I don't get it to boot.

I've made sure that it boots fine in DS mode (which it does. I've played a couple of games on it already to make sure it works) but there must be something that I missed to get this to work. Any ideas?

Get a bigger, stronger magnet. Try both sides of that magnet. Careful at not accidentally smashing the magnet to the top screen. Reinsert the flashcart and n2DSXL microSD card several times. Hold the button combo up to 10 seconds before letting go.

The magnet that I have successfully puts the console into sleep mode when I tested it. I've got a rare earth magnet that's stupidly strong, but I'm kind of wary about using it on my 2DS.

Format the microSD that inserts into the n2DSXL in [ FAT32 | 32 KB cluster size | MBR disk | Primary partition ] settings with MiniTool Partition Wizard. See quadruple reformat as an example.

The R4i 3DS Gold Plus will be in ntrboot mode if you don't see the Konami Entertainment banner in HOME Menu.

Lastly, if SafeB9SInstaller renamed and placed in the card root as sdmc:/boot.firm doesn't launch in ntrboot, you can also try GodMode9.firm (renamed as boot.firm) instead. Installing boot9strap in GodMode9 can be seen here; ignore the parts about CTRTransfer.

Okay, we've got progress! I'm able to get to the point to where if I start the console up and press select, it brings up the luma menu. I've followed the instructions up in the finalizing setup, but after I “Switch the hb. title to the current app.” and close and restart the Download Play app, I get an error that I can't seem to get around.

Any luck so far with the Homebrew Launcher? Are you missing the sdmc:/boot.3dsx (new-hbmenu)?

I can't state this clearly enough, no matter how much you trust the SDHC card, try and alternate one. Even if you've used this one forever and it's proven good, still try another one. I have heard of more troubles installing on the 2 ds XL, so many people emphasizing the magnet position, contacts etc.. only for it to turn out and be a buggy card that they've used successfully (for other things) forever.

Try a different card .. or two different cards, best use a new card for this.

Looks like getting the boot.3dsx into the root directory did the trick. Now all I have to do is figure out how to use this.
