GCN Game Cube high pitch sound problem?

Hello guys!

First off, good news!
im extremly happy. i managet to "fish out" metroid prime 1, prime 2 (love of my life) and sonic
adventure dx for my gamecube!!! yay!!!

Ok, happy time over.
I know GameCube makes quiet humming sound while its working and all, but when i put a disc it makes a bit high pitch sound. i noticed its from disc spinning cause when i open up the lit its no longer there (the sound i mean, not the lid lol). Also i know its not the laser (i think) because i can hear when it reads and it makes a different, lower, sound. Lower than disc that is.
My hearing is like a cat, so some might not find this annoying or wont notice but sometimes it drives me crazy, even though its not that bad when im further away from the cube (i love saying that, sounds so cute...the cube).

Anyway, so i presume laser is not reading constantly, because this sounds more like the motor that spins the disc.

Anyway mh question is...is this normal sound, a small high pitsc or is my motor dying?

I honestly don't think it's anything to worry about, mine's still working with the same components and the same noise - doesn't happen with every disc interestingly. It varies slightly between discs.

You can try doing a strip-down of the laser assembly, clean it and grease the rods and so on.

Personally, I'd just start using Swiss, save the mechanical parts from ever dying out. Well, it's what I have done anyway, it's a great solution. Or of course there's the GD Rom replacement, but that's not free and requires a but of soldering skill.

Honestly, it's worth using Swiss even just to save your console from over-stress and it protects your original discs from ever getting damaged accidentally, some of them are damn expensive to replace.

Its heard only when disc is spinning. I don't believe its capacitors, but ill inspect them once i find the screwdriver for GC.

Well i now, i decided to use eather save exploit or AR disc... but as for noise..its not bad, but i was just wandering if theres something wrong or is it normal.
Thats a good idea, to apply grease and clean the motor and rods etc.

there are small balls on the centro of the disc drive , those might need replacement and fat/oil (just a bit)just like a fan ball bearing.
this causes the disc to move more than it's designed, the wind it makes can sound high pitched noise.

most dvd/bluray/cd-players use the same size balls, i'm not sure where to find those i always used spare players.

wait...what balls are we talking about? i thought 3 balls on the top or something...

yes those are the ones. most ols systems like psx use the same trick, all non tray drives use the same style to hold the discs in place.
the disc should have only one way to spin, like a record disc...when the disc isn't firmly hold it might bounce, bounce at a high speed that is... the laser of any drive that is after 2nd gen. cd-drives should be able to read a slightly bouncing disc thanks to multi angle and 4X and up.
it'll still bounce the disc though if it's not firmly hold in place.

i see...really interesting stuff, didnt know that.
So is there any way to remedy or fix it instead of replacing it?

there were full size dvd mod cases for the gc, those were pretty cheap...
you can look for replacement console...
wii for excample (the one with gamecube ports) is a cheap replacement...
but there was swiss gc or something... i dodn;t know the detailles or have used it myself but i thought it was a softmod solution.
i'm not sure how to fix it without a scrap device...
