Hi guys. I am hoping to be able to hack my Switch, but am confused about some things. Here is my situation:
I was going to create/use EmuNAND, but I am pretty sure that my SysNAND is not "clean". Currently, my SysNAND sits at 5.0.1 or whatever. I was suggested earlier by someone on here to use Fusee-secondary and Kosmos. My main goal is to update to newer or latest System FW so I can play newer and upcoming games, but still do save edits and such. I have some questions before proceeding:

- What is the differences between Fusee Primary and Secondary?
- Is there a guide for fusee-secondary and Kosmos installation and usage?
- Overall guide for all of this? Should I still follow sdsetup.com?
- What is Kosmos? Is that the same as Atmosphere?
- Are there Sigpatches for Pokémon SW/SH that work with Fusee-Secondary? Was told that Fusee-Secondary uses different Sigpatches.

Any thoughts and help is GREATLY appreciated :)

If your sysnand is not clean and you've been online with it then forget online play. There is no way to clean your sysnand unless it's never been online.

I know. I am ok with keeping this Switch offline, as I do have another Switch that is online and not hacked/legit. I have been reading through the guide on sdsetup.com. I am thinking of updating SysNAND through Choi, but am worried/concerned about breaking the gamecard slot. I read on here that GC slot can be broken? I just want to be able to do save edits on the newer and upcoming games, just concerned about breaking GC slot. Further thoughts and help is appreciated :)

Hello there,

- What is the differences between Fusee Primary and Secondary?

Fusée-Primary is the payload you inject to the Switch trough TegraRCM or any other software or device like the RCMLoader One. Fusée-Secondary is a payload that atmosphère-NX uses to boot : It is automatically launched once fusée-primary has finished, and is responsible for preparing the Switch’s hardware for future running environments, such as the homebrew menu. Fusée-secondary is also responsible for validating and launching Exosphère.

- Is there a guide for fusee-secondary and Kosmos installation and usage?

Sure, there are tons of guides online, I beleive the best ones are the main topic on this board, and this website : https://switch.hacks.guide/

- Overall guide for all of this? Should I still follow sdsetup.com?

SDSetup will always include Kosmos with Atmosphère, which is something I personnaly don't appreciate. You can follow the any guides but I would recommend you to use atmosphère vanilla for many reasons.

- What is Kosmos? Is that the same as Atmosphere?

Kosmos is a "pack" made with atmosphère + sigpatches + some tools and modifications made to allow customizations. There are only two CFW for HorizonOS (the OS of the Switch) : Atmosphère and SXOS. All the others are packs or forks of amtosphère (please tell me if i'm wrong guys)

- Are there Sigpatches for Pokémon SW/SH that work with Fusee-Secondary? Was told that Fusee-Secondary uses different Sigpatches.

Yes, the latest sigpatches works with all the games as for now.

What I would recommend you if you want a clean install with a CFW on sysNAND : download atmosphere alone and put ChoiduJourNX and the firmware 9.0.1 on the SDCard so that you can update it, then prepare your SDCard with the homebrews that you are interest in, and softwares to install NSPs like Goldleaf (best installer imo).

What I would recommend you if you want a clean install with CFW on sysNAND + clean emuNAND : https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-setup-emunand-keep-sysnand-online.520471/

Most important : make a backup of your nand before starting and after updating to 9.0.1 !!! Use NXNandManager, it's fast and creates a backup directly on your PC !

I hope this is all clear, if you have any question feel free to ask :)

Thank you so much for the help and info! I am thinking about updating with Choi, but am concerned about breaking the GC slot. Been reading on here about nogc or something? What is that? Should I be worried? Should I still proceed with SysNAND FW update through Choi? Still would like to be able to use GC slot after updating through Choi. Here is what I am concerned about, found on reddit:

"So this might help some people out there - A few of the guides suggest using CNX to upgrade firmware without blowing fuses as something to do after getting CFW on their systems. Since most games won't work on 3.0.0, this was one of the first things I wanted to do when getting CFW working.

Well, mentioned on the GBATemp thread about CNX, but not on the download page most people link to (or on the guides themselves), is this little tidbit: In the 4.0.0 or 4.0.1 firmware, there's an update to the Game Card Reader. This update has it's own fuses and cannot be removed, and if in place will cause firmware before 4.0.0 to crash if you insert a game into the Switch.

The workaround to this firmware update is to disable the GameCard Reader Slot if you're sticking on a native firmware before 4.0.0 (for Coldboot) -- Hecate has an option to do this, and supposedly CNX will automatically edit your Hecate configuration for this, but I didn't see any such change and only discovered what was going on after it was too late.

If you're in the same situation as me -- native 3.0.0 firmware, have the card reader update, yadda yadda -- the workaround I found is to just leave AutoRCM on, use CNX to set a specific firmware, and wait. There may be a different solution that I don't know about to get the card reader working again in 3.0.0, but asking around said that it has it's own fuses and can't be downgraded.

tldr: If using ChoidujourNX, make sure you read up on disabling the Game Card Reader or your switch will be stuck only working on 4.0.0+ firmware."

Thoughts and help greatly appreciated :)
