More Info Regarding Switch (Mariko/Lite) Mods by Team-Xecuter

ub3r1337's first impressions from a direct demo of TX upcoming new hardware mods!
SXMODS.png

ub3r1337 recently meet with TX to have them demo to him their upcoming new mods for the Switch (patched, mariko and lite). Unfortunately, he didn't get any pictures, but he says they'll be coming later on. Even so, he shared some of this new information at MaxConsole, also shown below:
First Off: It is a hardware mod. TX went back to its roots, and this solution is a device you need to install inside your Switch. :)

From what we could tell the install looks ultra simple and almost plug and play. When pushed about the install requirements, TX held back from claiming its fully solder-less, stating clearly that this particular design will always benefit from a few simple solder connections, versus the original intent of fully solder-less (at least for the classic model which is the unit we got to inspect).

In other words, a fully solder-less install is potentially possible with the classic models however it is not recommended by TX due to long term reliability concerns (we will cover this more in-depth at a later date, once we have our preview unit in our hands and put it thru some tests)

Second Point: There is one device for Patched and Mariko unit which is probably under production (see point three) and should be available soon :) They plan to release 2 devices; one for all classic versions (original, patch and mariko) and one for the Switch Lite.

Third Point: I really pushed for a release date, but TX refused to confirm anything during our meeting. From what I understood, even though it seems to be currently under production, because all sorts of things can occur in the factory during production, they will not commit to a date to me or their resellers until they are certain they can deliver on time enough stock to meet the demand.

I guess I can only respect that, this is probably why they did not announce anything yet, and we should know more once it is finally officially announced on their TX website.
At some point ub3r1337 hopes to get some pictures and videos from TX and a review unit, but we have no clue when that will happen. For now we just have to sit and wait for some more news regarding these new TX hardware mods to appear online!

Huh. Neat.

Well, assuming its real (did a quick check, the guy that got the chance to use their chip is a MaxConsole user so they're probably not fabricated), that'll be interesting.

Still wish their would be some more evidence (video evidence ideally but photographic evidence would be better) but then again, I wouldn't be surprised if TX just smelled the money after the aforementioned "we have Mariko hax" was inserted in their rumor mill and pulled up their glitching attack solution again.
All they showed this person was their old modchip on an old Switch.

If this turns out to be real then you can add 4 - Works on all consoles
This isn't really correct. Assuming theyre real, it's just as easy to run Atmosphere if I'm not mistaken, so it wouldn't be SX exclusive.

Glitching attacks to my knowledge aren't really exploits, as much as they are screwing with the board in a certain way to bypass security.

Honestly, with the evidence shown, there's no certainty if they did or didn't use their old chip. They probably are trying to get their chip working with Mariko units.

I would be very happy and contented for the time being if TX fixed the linked Nintendo Account issue on two Switch’s and released a new revision of sxos so at the least I can use my legit xci backups again online! Is that too much to ask? Because it’s becoming very annoying.. and I know lots of others are in the same situation there Switch’s are just redundant. There is no way around the issue especially if you have a live Nintendo online subscription & lots of paid eshop titles so you’re not going to setup a new account just to fix the issue.

What ? if this is real it will run only sxos if it runs cfw.. at least it will not run atmosphere oficially as that would be piracy xD

Remember, SX OS Pro was announced, and it took nearly 3 months till it was shiped.... So Maybe xMas or january.
and ithnik it will be 2 different chios because of the size. I thnik normal switch has more room for a chip an easier to install.
And the Lite is smaller less room.... so maybe thats why they have 2 different chips?!

Costello also said I was going to regret writing that post, yet here we are: a fabricated rumor made them move and we just got confirmation that it is indeed a modchip.
I believe this experiment successfully highlighted how most people in this scene (probably in others as well) are far more eager and concerned with fighting each other than to actually work at their own pace on something to be proud of and that TX is just as vulnerable to these tactics as anyone else.

I think that more than likely this is just another attempt by TX to get others to play their hands. This worked for them on 7.x when they spread a rumor they were nearing completion of a workaround for the the new bootloader process, which forced a premature atmos release that wasn't as stable as the team/community liked. This played right into their hands as it gave them the source they needed to add 7.0 support to their product. Then, even after given the answers with likely little progress in-house, it *still* took them a month (or more?) to push out a stable version of the sept implementation into the tx boot.dat

My guess is this is just another attempt to get atmos to publish private progress faster.

I do agree with you that they likely have the chip working on classic, but not mariko units. This would explain why there was no timeline given - They know they don't have it working and our guess is as good as theirs as to when they will figure it out.

Hardware mod... this will be interesting. Considering this will make it a really unreliable exploit.

Also still taking this with a grain of salt. C'mon @Game_Over_Tom show us something.
What do you mean unreliable? I don't understand this as you have no idea how it works yet.

Look further down the article, they seem to use "classic" as form factor as they explicitly include mariko and ipatched units. Its meant to distinguish versus the lite.

That said its also not clear that the demo'd switch was mariko or ipatched.

If they actually have a real exploit i'll be surprised. Even more surprised for a ol fashion modchip coming out in 2019-2020.

But i do want it to be true. Would love to run homebrew on a switch lite.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
