Hardware Migrating to a larger SD Card?

So I'm thinking of upgrading to 400 GB SanDisk from my current 128 GB one (no space for anything, unbelievable). Am I imagining the procedure correctly or is there something else I must know?

I'm thinking I need to...

1) partition the new SD Card the way I partitioned the old one, format SD Card (I forget if I format before or after the partitioning).

2) copy the contents of the old card to HDD.

3) paste said contents to the new SD Card.

Switch will process the old files on a new card as if nothing had changed. and everything will be just as I left them on the old card.

...Are things really what I expect them to be? Any pitfalls?

Depends. Do you have multiple partitions? If so, the easiest way would be to create an image, burn in to the new sd and expand the fat32 partition.
If you have just one partition (no emummc and such) than it's just fat32&copy&paste.

I have two partitions, one being for the NAND (small) and the other where I actually put all the files. The tricky thing is that I only have access to the larger part when I put into the card reader on my PC. I have no access to the smaller part whatsoever...

Can this still be carried out?

I guess I could also swap the old card and the new one... Not sure which files I'd need to transfer for the new one to start working, or if it still wouldn't work because of the old card having two parts.

When you image something, it creates 1:1 copy of that to a file. So even if you cant read it, the data is there.
But I am not sure if the fat32 partition is the last partition (because if its not the last one, you'd have to repartition everything manually and create new partition table and such). You can however create the image (with something like win32disk imager) and flash it onto the new sd and try extend the fat32.
You can probably go to disk manager and see where the fat32 partition is.
