Ubisoft delays Watch_Dogs Legion, other major titles

The Last of Us Part 2 isn't the only game facing a delay today, as Ubisoft has pushed back the release date of a number of its major upcoming titles. Three games have been delayed, including Watch_Dogs Legion, Rainbox Six Quarantine, and Gods & Monsters, all of which were announced at this year's E3. Each of the aforementioned games was originally slated for an early 2020 launch, and now will be releasing in the 2020-2021 fiscal year. These delays are due to the combined effects of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Breakpoint being considered a critical failure, along with the much-enjoyed, though lower-than-projected sales of Tom Clancy's The Division 2. Yves Guillemot, the CEO of the company, stated that Ghost Recon Breakpoint lacked the development time to allow for a title that could have enough innovation or qualities that make for a good game, saying that while their upcoming games already have "high potential", Ubisoft wants to ensure that these titles will offer the best experience possible for players.

While each of these games already has a strong identity and high potential, we want our teams to have more development time to ensure that their respective innovations are perfectly implemented so as to deliver optimal experiences for players. This decision will have a very significant impact on our financial results for this fiscal year and goes against our recent successes in building a more stable development model. However, it is in line with our strategy to maximize the future value of our brands for the long-term benefit of our employees, players and shareholders.

Mayb a good idea now and more excitement to not look at a release date and just check the gaming sites daily to see a review pop up

I still think The Division 2 was one of their best games in years, and it's so tragic that it sold less than they wanted it to. Fantastic game in all the best ways. I tend to avoid Ubi games these days, but Div 2 was worth using uplay, as crazy as it sounds.

Instead of delaying games, why not just stop trying to rush them? I know time is money, but rushing your employees causes quality to drop dramatically. Slow down. Breathe. And work on the game at a good pace.

I get what yr saying but ther hardly rushing games when it takes few years and more to make em just think for a moment what a few years is thts an awful long time to see something you've worked on finally get released - even the programmers at times prob think fk this this will hav to do

If the enemies weren't bullet sponges from hell, like the first game, it'd have done better.

It's what devs should do when perfecting the linear, only then is that evolution a good one. They're too caught up in doing the difficult things that everything feels like it's lacking polish.

All these major releases are being delayed in order to be put on Ps5/XScarlet
I agree. they'll probably release for ps4 but be ps5 "compatible", with various tweaks and whatnot to run better or some such thing. wonder how other ps4 releases for next year are going to handle the transition since it's a lock to be hardware compatible.

Certainly not TLOU2, considering the release date...and honestly, if both consoles are backwards compatible, it wouldn't make much sense to release on consoles with a zero install base versus the 100 million PS4s already out there. I'm sure they'll get patches for the new consoles, but I seriously doubt they launch on them.

Ubisoft should ask some indie docs to write a game making tutorial for them.

At they very least they should improve on their copy paste approach accross ALL games they make.

Generic , repetitive trash.

They don't have the competence to makes good games.
