I've been using retroarch for sometime now on multiple consoles. But I've noticed with some master system roms (only a few) they lag and slow down. Ive tried with pico drive and genesis plus gx but both get the slow downs. Any suggestions on what I could do to resolve this please

Sure this isn't the Master System being emulated accurately? It had a ton of Genesis "ports" that didn't run that well, especially late in the life where it was practically a PAL console and you're emulating 60 hz.

the first thing you should try doing if you experience audio crackling and stutters is overclocking your cpu... it's quite obvious

Tried it. Problem still persists. I guess its the emulator itself that can't play the audio properly & correctly

Slowdowns in Master System games?
Really?
That shouldn't be happening, like at all.
Try deleting the retroarch.cfg file and open RetroArch so it creates a fresh configuration file.
You shouldn't be getting any kind of stuttering or slowdown in cores that are not PSX, DC, PSP or N64.
Anything below those consoles should run flawlessly.

Yeah I didn't think it should be either. I have tried from fresh on switch/laptop/xbox one and they all do the same. Will try different roms but pretty sure I already have

Turn on the framerate in notifications. I will bet you it says 60. It is likely emulating NTSC master system accurately, which includes running up against per-line sprite limits (resulting in flicker) and other slow play. Crackling audio and sub-60 framerate would be a sign of the emulator actually running too slow.

So what would the advise be to get them working properly? Should I get all roms as ntsc? I've just put on fps and your right it does run at 60fps when set to ntsc and 50fps when set to euro but both settings cause stutters exc. It's the only emulator/core I have this problem with I use many other cores and have done for ages. I hope this can be resolved

The emulator is likely working "properly" in that it is emulating how bad the games run on a real master system. The default behavior of an emulator should be accurately recreating the original experience, while offering options if you want to enhance beyond that.

In this case check out the (core) options in the quick menu while running genesis plus gx. There is both a "CPU speed" and "remove sprite line limit" options that may help.

Thank you but I do not find the Display settings even in MelonDS mode or a rom loaded. I am confused. Yes, my retroarch is the latest version.
I thought you were using the standalone MelonDS :P Are you using the Patreon build of MelonDS? if not your better off using the standalone version for now its faster.
