I've a question which I always forget to make. Is there any way of accessing the Wii U Menu while in Retroarch?

The Menu button brings up the Retroarch Menu, and while it can be reconfigured to something else (like L3), I don't think it's possible to make it so the Wii U Menu appears. Is it possible?
That is a simple feature but I'm afraid is not possible. So while using RA there's no way to check the gamepad's battery level or change the gamepad screen brightness, and no way to turn the gamepad screen off (or turn it off completely) when using other controllers.

Hi. Did you get offended by my message about your question ? If that so I apologize.
I saw that your question got unanswered and I pointed out playlists and snapshots problems. If we could help you we would.

Thanks for the answer no, I didn't see your response sorry. Thank you for your reply again. I got the snapshots working once I reinstalled everything and on the most basic retro then I set the directory path to locate the thumbnails. Then I updated retro arch. So far so good, but I didn't know it was soo buggy. I did get a crash on the new version if I tried to set a path for thumbnails. Now its on to figure out how to load sega cd roms fun fun

This is a shame. Every once in a while I decide to play on the Gamepad only to realise I left it on the lowest brightness setting.

After noticing it was possible to return to the OS Menu on the 3DS, wondered if it wasn't avaliable on the Wii U as well. Oh, well.

I wonder if it's too complicated to add something like the PadCon functionality into the wiiu's retroarch build or something like how vWii manages gamepad's screen brightness (start+dpad).
Apparently there's an option in RA settings to show the battery level of the device but I don't think it works.
Only then, we won't need the wii u menu access at all while on RA.

Hey everyone

Where the heck lol is the complete guide for retro arch on Wii u to load Sega cd roms????

You need to have the bios files present like other systems and put them in retroarch/cores/system/

bios names HAVE to be as follows;
bios_CD_U.bin
bios_CD_E.bin
bios_CD_J.bin

Note that for Sega-CD games, ISO + WAV, BIN + CUE and ISO + OGG formats are supported; ISO + MP3 is NOT supported.
If you need any other info on this particular core such as what to name the .wav files refer to the official docs here:
https://docs.libretro.com/library/genesis_plus_gx/

The core is great at handling any formats you throw at it be it bin/cue, iso/cue. Good luck!

Got it I was labeling them wrong, Thanks so much but the files didn't go into the system menu, I placed them in the main core file. Which is probably what I set the retro arch directory too.

Again up and RUNNING. You rock.

Any Chance anyone knows how to get the playlist working for Sega Cd using CHD? All other systems are working, and yes the playlist is there with the thumbnails, the issue is when trying to load a game it says it can't load. All Ideas Welcome

I haven’t really configured Sega CD games with the playlist yet but maybe it works similarly to Turbo Grafx CD where you need to point to the cue file for it to load.

Yes, the playlist entry should point only to a valid CUE file. No need to point to an ISO/BIN/CHD file directly.

That said, I don't know if CHDs are actually supported, but if they are just make sure to edit your CUE file to point to the CHD file instead of the original BIN or ISO.

EDIT: I had my info wrong about CHDs. And yes, they're supported. See post #1149 for further details.

CHDs don't have .cue files with them, I believe?

And how does one create .cue files? I didn't even know this was a possibility until now.
CUE files are plain text and can be edited or created by hand in any text editor, though if you don't have all of the audio offsets you'll obviously lose CDDA audio. The proper format is listed on the Genesis Plus GX documentation page on libretro.com.

There also exists a program named "Sega Cue Maker" to generate a cue file from existing binary and audio tracks, provided that the filenames are numbered. This is kind of old now though and not optimized for the format preferred by RetroArch., but if you have ISO/WAV or ISO/MP3 but no CUE file you can make one with this and it will work in most emulators.

Probably the best method now is to just get a ReDump image and then convert it to either ISO/OGG or CHD (though I don't know if CHD is supported on Wii U).

That helps a lot. Thank you!

Just a reminder folks, Genesis Plus GX will not run MP3 files so stick with WAV or OGG combinations.

I had to convert all my MP3 audio files to WAV with LameXP.
It was free and easy though.

I use foobar2000 for audio conversions and it's the quickest method I've ever used. Let's say you want to use 192 kbps OGG with RetroArch. You would just save a conversion profile with that bit rate, name it "RetroArch", and from then on you can just right-click anything in the playlist and click Convert > RetroArch.

Also, if you have ReDump images you can use ISO Buster or CDMage to extract all those BIN tracks as ISO/WAV. Of course, you'll still have to edit the CUE file after converting the audio tracks to OGG.

I only have the chd file which loads and plays. CUE file?

I saw the post about making a .cue file ill do some research. I download the Redump files as all .chd

Ok, I just tried a CHD myself with Final Fight (USA) for Sega CD and it worked fine, CDDA audio and all.

Here are the details...

- No CUE file is needed for CHDs. This info is already contained in the CHD.
- I converted to CHD from a Redump multi-bin image with chdman.exe (it comes with the official MAME download).
- If you're using playlists, point directly to the CHD file. No sub-folders necessary, you can keep them all in the same folder.

Here's an example playlist entry using the newer XML playlist format:

{
"path": "sd:/ROMs/Sega - Mega CD - Sega CD/Final Fight CD (USA).chd",
"label": "Final Fight CD (USA)",
"core_path": "sd:/retroarch/cores/genesis_plus_gx_libretro.rpx",
"core_name": "Sega - MS/GG/MD/CD (Genesis Plus GX)",
"crc32": "3AE8431E",
"db_name": "Sega - Mega CD - Sega CD.lpl"
},

If you're still having problems it may lie elsewhere (ie, not having the proper BIOS files).

Any chance we can get gamma controls for mGBA core in the next build?

A lot of these games are too damn bright for a TV screen.

I’ve been revisiting Megaman Zero series and the colors are so washed out.
