I have a modded Switch and as such I can't go online nor receive updates for firmware and games. A game I recently installed asks me to update it before I start it every time (which is strange because it couldn't know it since it's always kept offline). I found the latest update for the game and installed it using goldleaf but even with the update it asks me to do it nevertheless. I don't have another switch to sync the legit update. How can I stop the game to ask me to update it?

Tl;dr: I want to remove the game update nag that appears every time I start the game (not to be confused with a firmware update, which I know how to remove).

What firmware are you on? AFAIK the latest update currently required by a game is 8.1.0. You can use ChoiDujourNX to update. 8.1.0 is the highest I would go right now as all homebrew needs to be updated to work with button input on 9.0 and chances are if you use homebrew, some of the homebrew you use hasn't been updated yet.

I know you can reset version requirements for a game with DevMenu.
To prevent getting it again you need to not be connected to Ninty servers.

I think Goldleaf and other file managers can also wipe required game versions, you'd have to check.

As I have written both in the title and in the message itself, my update nag is about a game update, not a firmware update. I am on 9.0.0 by the way.

I repeat, it's not a certain firmware required, it just wants the game to be updated, which is different from the firmware version. I wasn't connected at all to Nintendo servers, in fact I use it offline and my only internet connection is set with 90dns and I have incognito installed as an extra precaution, nintendo servers are always unreachable and that's why I can't understand why the game asks for a game update.

Often times the latest update that can be found online is not actually the latest update. It requires a constant effort to keep dumping and uploading every new game update, especially since you need to own the game to get the update for it, and the ban risks associated with going online on a hacked console. So updates are prioritized when required for a new DLC, but almost always lag behind the latest released update. Not much you can do about that really.

can't you install the update on a legit switch, then use the local connection thing to get the update on to a hacked switch, where it can be dumped?

I understand that you're talking about the game version requirement and not a firmware requirement.
I've already said, you need to reset the game required version (unrelated to firmware requirement) either with Devmenu or any other application that allows it.

If you've been off of Nintendo servers this whole time my guess would be that you had an update, and then either uninstalled it, or installed an earlier update, so it's still looking for the latest update.

the why it ask you for update even if you never connected/updated the game : apparently there is some "up to date list" packaged with some content sometimes (games, system update, and so on) and thats why your console "know"

how to remove them :
goldleaf :
- go to "manage content" (or something, i dont have it in english something),
- choose where the game is installed (sd card or nand user),
- select the game, then select "base title"
- select the option to reset the launch version (its the last one just before "cancel"; be carefull to not touch anything else, especially DONT TOUCH delete ticket)

tinfoil :
- go into the installed game
- hoover the game you want and click X for "uninstall" (dont worry it wont uninstal at this point)
- select the BASE (the first one of the list) and click Y to reset version

As stated in the post, I don't have another switch to do it

thank you for the related answer, I tried doing what you say using goldleaf and reset the launch version (v0), but no luck, it still asks for the update.

That's what's happening to me in NBA20K20.... there's an update but If I try to update it, it will not update and then renders the game unusable. If I just run it anyways it works great but the nagging update is always there. Just want to make sure this is the right option for me?! Thanks

i also have the issue of the goldleaf option not working, i talked about it because "it exist" and it could be "only for me", but the tinfoil one definitively worked!
if you dont want to get the atmosphere fork of tinfoil, just grab the "tinfoil" folder to put into the switch folder, and use tinfoilmod ( https://github.com/coniventia/tinfoilmod-releases/releases )

tried tinfoil too, did the reset, no changes... should I try to reset the version also on the update?

I also want to know.. I tried it with Tinfoil and Goldleaf, it still pops up :/
The recommended solution:
  1. Update the game by installing the game update NSP with blawar's Tinfoil
  2. If the game update requires a system version update, update to 9.1.0 using ChoiDujourNX
If, for whatever reason, you don't want to update the game and/or system version, do the following:
  1. Load blawar's Tinfoil
  2. Remove the game version requirement from the problematic game

When using blawar's Tinfoil i did exactly like White Raven wrote, following:

tinfoil :
- go into the installed game
- hoover the game you want and click X for "uninstall" (dont worry it wont uninstal at this point)
- select the BASE (the first one of the list) and click Y to reset version

It still pops-up and somehow downloads in the background even though i have 90DNS :/

The fact that the error message persists and the game update downloads with 90DNS installed means you're very likely doing something wrong. The game update cannot download with 90DNS installed properly, and resetting the game version requirement should remove the update prompt. If you do not have 90DNS installed properly, which it very much sounds like is the case, then the game version requirement that you're clearing with Tinfoil is just being restored back to normal since you're connected to Nintendo's servers without 90DNS and/or Incognito. That's likely your problem.

But what else can i do? :(
i added the DNS to "163.172.141.219", and secondary DNS to "207.246.121.77" in the DNS settings... Should i do something else?
I have already done this 3 times now (delete wifi settings and connect to it again)
