I installed one of the GBA Pokemon games through injection into my son's 2DS. However, I realized afterwards that I had forgotten to include the icon image, so I did another injection and installed it. The game was apparently assigned a different ID so I ended up with two installations of the game. He had already made some progress on the first installation, so I wanted to copy the save file over to the new one.
I first tried finding what I thought was the save file for the game in my SD card and copying it over from the original installation's folder to the new one but that did not work.

Is there a way to perhaps use GodMode9 to copy the original file and replace the new one?

FYI you are very lucky it didn't overwrite the program, because it would've erased your save too. Always back up the save before installing an updated GBA inject.

Had my back again. Thanks. Because the old and new inject probably have different ID's, I'm guessing I'll have to rename the <TitleID>.gbavc.sav file to match the new inject, correct?

Phew! He did not make a lot of progress but still, it's nice not to lose what he had.

@TurdPooCharger Slightly off-topic, but didn't someone finally devise a manager for GBA saves on 3DS? I could have sworn I saw a thread from someone notable who mentioned they'd solved it. Having trouble finding it now.
You mean, other than GodMode9?

GBAVCSM. Its development depends on this:

While we wait, I'm looking into implementing a DSiWare save manager on the side.

The name doesn't matter when injecting the save to a game.

And yes, @Rahkeesh is correct. Had you reinstalled the game with the exact Title ID, your boy's save would have been overwritten and deleted.

But then, how can I take the backup from the original installation and inject it into the new installation?
What would I have to change in the file?
That is what I really want to do.

The instructions should tell you how. Godmode9 extracts and injects based on the last GBA VC that you use, not the names of the files

You don't change anything. You dump the save from the first game. Launch the second game. Go back to GodMode9. Inject the save.
