Hey all,

With the release of mariomaker 2 I want to play online. As I want to keep my fuses intact, I would like to setup an EmuMMC to play online.

-I got a clean rawnand + boot0/1 backup that was made when i got my console (3.0.0). I would like to restore this image to use it as the emunand. The problem is that this backup is a merged file (it was made with exfat). If i want to use nyx, I assume i need the backup on my sd card, but it's not possible to do so on fat32. Is there a way to split the backup into parts?

-What way do i update this emunand? I assume it's safe to use the system settings?

Thx for the help!

You can use EmuMMC for online just make sure (remember [anyone reading this] that atmosphere EmuMMC promised to be just as clean as OFW?) you have clean eMMC and then use hekate to make EmuMMC and have fun.
Using this system you can now use ingonito to remove/edit prodinfo from eMMC and use that for hacks and CFW stuff!

P.s Mario Maker 2 is firmware dependent so after setting up EmuMMC make sure that you update.
P.p.s Don't download NSP's on EmuMMC

That was the general suggestion but if i remeber correctly, EmuMMC should be just as clean as OFW.
I am pretty sure if you don't downlaod NSP, or even homebrew for full protection, then it should be safe.

Also make sure your fuses match, so not AutoRCM as full confirmation that Ninty can't detect it has not happened

If mean if this is a thing then imagine how beneficial that would be!
You could download NSP's on eMMC and utilize it's full speed!
I have suggested this idea to @bylaws for the upcoming android as well (so, installing android to eMMC)

Ofcourse if you take this leap then remember to report your success (or failure?) for science!

I thought the general suggestion was sys for latest firmware and online clean, emu for everything else
Nope. General suggestion that I make, and that I see many others make: Sysnand clean and on lowest firm possible (mine is on 4.1.0 for PegaSwitch/PegaScape, in hopes of a persistent cold-boot solution one day). I have never went online with Sysnand. Then 2x emunand: one will be clean "sysnand" (not sysnand as it's emu, but I'm going to use it as if it were sysnand) for legit and online play, and one will be whatever version I want with installed NSPs.

There are two version of emunand: hidden partition on SD card, and bunch of files on SD card. The latter is supported on FAT32 cards (obviously) and is much, much slower (it will speed up in future updates). If you have one full image, you have a few options. (1) you can make hidden partitions on your SD card for 32GB and write your image to it. That's your emunand. Or (2) you can split up your single file backup the same way you joined the parts: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-make-a-file-based-emunand-for-atmosphere.541810/

Thx for the link. Joining the parts is actually done with a copy /b command. Is nyx able to use my 3.0.0 backup and set it as emunand?

No, not currently. The only option you have is to do what the forementioned link says and setup emunand manually or use sx os

The hekate page says:

"Create file based or raw partition based from eMMC via the Create button.
You can also restore a backup directly to sd partition via the Restore option in tools (outside of emuMMC), AFTER you turned ON SD emuMMC Raw Partition."

This means it should be able to use my backup as new emummc right?

Also, updating is ok using the system settings in emunand?

I'm not about the restore abilities, but it should do what you want.

Updating is okay using system settings in emunand IF that is the emunand you want to use as your clean, online version. For pirate/non-legit stuff, do NOT update through system settings. Update through ChoiDujourNX.

And yes, you joined your parts with a binary copy, and the little script I linked to does a binary split. Same thing but opposite. ^_^

My synand is on 3.01 i Personaly played since Release mariomaker2 in emunand athmosphere online autorcm on and have much fun with it
I dont Setup a Second emunand yet but i will do it
No Ban yet
Further details? Is your emunand completely clean, no homebrew. Is mario maker 2 legit (That's pretty dump to ask because nintendo insta-banns you if you use pirated nsp but anyway)?
Another thing say this actually works, there isn't a way to make permanent changes to sysNAND yet, is there?

I'm trying to restore the emunand.. but i'm having troubles with the split file. I created a path requested by hekate: backup/switchID/restore

With the files renamed as rawnand.bin.0, .bin.1, etc I don't get an error but it says this:
https://imgur.com/XQcbK6M

With the files renamed as rawnand.bin.00, .bin.01, etc I get a sector size, but with an error:
https://imgur.com/dIpKrBk

If i use the original name used by the dd split program (.00,.01,.02,etc):

I assume the rrawnand.bin.0 is a typo in hekate, as it gave me the same error as the last picture with the file name given by the split program.

The dd split program gave me 7 files, all being 4gb except for the last one. Anyone got an idea on what to do?

This is how I've been thinking about doing it. My question for you is, my clean sysnand backup is for 7.0.1 and I have the corresponding number of burnt fuses to match. In this case, I would leave my sysnand alone and create 2 emunands:

1) Emunand 1 - this is my legit Emunand. Can I use ChoiDujour to update it to 8.1.0 so I can play all of my purchased games online and using the eShop? Will a firmware and fuse mismatch cause a ban?
2) Emunand 2 - this is the one that stays at 7.0.1 and is used for RetroArch and never goes online.

The thing I haven't seen many people talk about is the firmware and fuse mismatch and whether or not it will cause issues. I'd rather not upgrade my sysnand to 8.1.0 so my fuses match if I can avoid it. I'm hoping someday there will be a warm boot option for 7.x though that may be dreaming...

Can you guys stop derailing my threat? Go to general discussions if you want to discuss the best way to setup a emunand.

Anyway, I decided to format my card to exfat to install the full image and it worked. But now i'm running into a blackscreen. I'm getting a blackscreen both with the backup restored and when i create a new emummc using nyx. (both stock and CFW boot, the stock shows the nintendo logo, the CFW shows the atmos logo --> blackscreen.)

any idea's?
