Normally I just use an sd card reader, but it's been playing around lately. So I stuck my sd card that has my switch emunand, saves, etc etc into my android phone to use it as an sd card reader.
I was about to put goldleaf on it....

Nothing came up, so I looked at my phone and there was an error message.

I decided I would just install goldleaf through usb, but when I started up my switch, I got missing boot.dat.

Tried a few times, same thing.

So I tried my normal sd card reader and checked Diskmgmt.msc, and it shoes up.

First partition 16mb, the rest is RAW.

Well that's not good. So something happened when I stuck it into the android phone.

It was exfat.

Please tell me this is recoverable, I don't want to have to start all my games again. I literally just 100%'d CTR:NF and was going to apply the 1.01 update.

If it's Raw you're fucked it's gone it's currently an unformatted sd card. You could try those recovery programs (they usually cost money) but any time I've tried them they never worked for me.

Fuck my life.... That's fucking ridiculous! What even god damn happened?!

You can use a program like Recuva to try and recover individual files and folders, but your odds aren't good.

It is very important to use Checkpoint to make periodic backups of any save files you cannot afford to lose, and those backups should be put onto the cloud.

i have often had fairly good success with data recovery tools as long as no data was wrote to the card once the format was performed by the phone i would say there is a good chance of recovery, just don't do anything else with the card in the meantime

Any tools you'd suggest to use since you've had success?

For sure, the android did NOT write data. It was for sure just an error.

Recuva throwing an error about not liking RAW partitions.

Probably better to start over than doing file recovery as you would just run into non working file if you managed to recover them.

sounds like it got corrupted. Don't mess with it too much or risk losing more data. There are programs you can try using but its not guaranteed to get all the data back

Can try
https://www.easeus.com/storage-media-recovery/repair-raw-sd-card.html

This is what I used. Except the trial version doesn't do recovery, it just checks to see if the files are even there. So I ended up sailing the seven seas for one that works unrestricted.

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard 12.0 -MAZADOF is your target.

Luckily, I was clever enough to set my sd card adapter to Read Only mode before even attempting anything, so for sure, no files were even touched, atleast, none look out of place or the wrong sizes or anything.
It took ages, but the files have been recovered without anything important being marked as damaged. Now copying the recovered files onto the sd card again after a format.

If it doesn't work after this, then it's a fresh run for me then :/ I'll report back if it was successful or not.

Whatever you do when you get it up and running again get a spare external hard drive or use a computer if you have the space and keep a backup of everything that's what I do.

Oh I shall!

Emunand appears to be perfectly fine. However, none of the games that were installed to the "sd card" (not within the emunand itself) seem to have survived. A shame. But atleast games seem to be loading and whatnot.

After testing a few games, and reinstalling/updating CTR:NF, my save is safe. Backed that bitch up straight away.

Thanks for the help folks, greatly appreciate it!
