Pardon me for my newbie questions, but I don't own a Switch yet, and having real dual boot Ubuntu and "regular gaming" features would be the tipping point in getting one, so I know little or nothing about modding and jailbreaking one.

1) I read somewhere that in order to hack a Switch and install custom software you need specific (older) versions of the device. Is it still true?

2) In a video tutorial I watched, in order to boot to Ubuntu, the guy told that you need to boot with the Switch connected via USB to a PC and launch an utility every time. Is it true?

Thanks.

Yes to both questions -- newer versions of the switch are so-called ipatched units, and they cannot push paylods through USB. An exploit for them have been released for FW < 8.0, however, and a solution will probably be released for them relatively soon.

CFW is not installed on the Switch, rather, it is loaded, and thus, you have to load it each time you turn it off. You don't really need to turn it off though, it can last for a long time in sleep mode.

On another note, this thread was made specifically for questions like this, so the next time you have general questions regarding Switch hacking, I would suggest you post them there

You can push payloads to them, the payloads just have to be signed with nvidia’s private key :P

hey, sadly i have no time to test it now, but theres an app called parsec, that does work for game streaming and support ubuntu 18.04 lts

you may take a look if you are interested
It should work if you build yourself
I hope they fix the joycons bug soon, I tend to use my Switch on portable mode.
You can use them by connecting them via by and sliding them in.

Sounds like maybe it went into RCM and drained the battery. Hold the power button for 20 seconds and then put it back into the dock so it can charge up.

Yes, I have had this happen to me before, and holding down power, charging, then plugging it into my PC would trigger RCM. This is the first time where doing so didnt work out. Pretty sure it bricked my switch.

how is possible to brick it ? try with bridging pins manually like before you install autoRCM and tell how is

also check your usbc cable and switch connector is it ok
