Was curious of why no one has tried to translate it yet (or even do a basic attack menu etc one). People were saying the insides of the new Super Robot Taisen game were the same as this one, yet someone has done a large/great patch for it.

Gambia, The
Simple.
-game has its own file system, which is not at all like Endless Frontier.
-game has its own data compression scheme which is quite different from the bios compression.
-game has its own mission text compression, which you can't figure out without debugging.
-and the game has another compression for the battle text.

As most people here probably don't even know the use of a debugger, it's not surprising there's nothing for this game.

The game is very easy to play in jap, even IF you never even read a japanese character in your life.
simply when there are new units or new attacks
-TRY THEM ALL
-Physical and Long-Ranged attacks are VERY easy to tell the diffrence between them
-Characters are mostly diffrent and placement are the same, so you shouldn't have a problem memoriezing every Gundam's attacks, because most of them barely have any
-Discriptions are not required, they just add more depth for the game
-Story Dialog is not even need, skip it =P. if you are THAT desperate, find someone who used their time to make a document of what is said and either print it or place the document file into ur DS and read it with a program (perferably moonshell)

->PS: the ONLY thing you'd really need a translation for would be the menu, but you'd learn how to stick with it after a while

Just a few of MANY reasons why Super Robot Taisen W will not have a translation

I think this game needs at least a patch for the menu. Screwing around finding out what's what isn't fun. I also agree it can be played in Jap though.

after finishing around 4-5 titles of srw and without knowing any japanese, let alone the story.. i began grasping in the dark what's the plot is all about..

sure, the game is fun, the Animation is fun, (the DS and GBA lack voice acting, but with recent development in Mugen of Frontier, i see no reason why they can't put voice acting in battle scene, it's just the perfect wet dream in nds. If that wouldn't happen, maybe i'll reconsider having psp just for the voice acting and pure animation alone).

But then again, playing with skipping the whole dialogue and read the translation for it after OR before it is no fun. Maybe i'm just being selfish, but seeing the story unfold in the game is genuine fun. xD

Makes me wonder, why Banpresto never released an option to have an english version (you don't have to localize it, just add the english text). It could help them rack the import sales

theres not that much "selections" in SRT, it really wouldn't take more than a few minutes to figure out everything

No apologies will be made for necrothreading because I recently introduced myself to this series and ended up here when looking up why W doesn't have a English patch yet since I heard it's one of the best in the series.

This game has since been translated into both Traditional and Simplified Chinese although I don't know when exactly it was completed since I can't read Chinese but what I do know is that the translation group's official 374 page long megathread was created in early 2009. Is there something different about Chinese that makes it easier to make a patch or something?

To answer your question, as a security engineer: "Anything can be hacked, it just depends on your motivation".

So it just seems like the Chinese romhackers got better motivation (and time, and everything that factors into it) than english-speaking ones. But don't worry, you still got a lot of other SRW games available in English ;)

Hmm. What if someone were to ask the Chinese group nicely for the toolset? ZangerZanvolt earlier said "if someone can give me the program they used to add the tranz to the game i will translate Super robot taisen W" so if the Chinese group were to be accommodating, would that enable people to put a English patch together?

This would be a dream coming true.
Anyways, I bet my potato phone that nor a living soul here will use this vital information...

I have an idea. I assume it would be against the rules here to link to the Chinese group's megathread but since I know where it is and I'm good at figuring out how to navigate places I can't read, I could try passing them the message. Someone here could post the message and my friend could translate it into Chinese and unless something goes wrong I could post it in the megathread and post their reply here if they give one.

Hit a snag. Tried registering for the Chinese forum and it appears you need either a invite code or QQ account. Since I don't know anyone there the former is not a option while I had already tried to get a QQ account and got stonewalled by authentication stuff which would've been solved if I knew someone in person who already had a QQ account. The Chinese are pretty good at running a closed community.

Anyway, it looks like the person who delivers the message will need to be someone with a QQ account. This is as far as I go unless I or someone else finds someone with a QQ account. Anyway, since it would be wrong to keep such information to myself, the name of the Chinese group is "星组游戏论坛" if I'm not mistaken.

PS: I tried asking /m/ for help but the only response I got was some well wishing.

Most groups don't share their tools, but good luck.

Godspeed. I pray to every available god and a few I just made up for the occasion that you manage to make at least SOME headway. there are so many of us on the imageboards who have been nothing short of desperate for W's eventual translation.

don't give up. please.

Nothing more I can do unless I find someone with a QQ account or someone decides to give me one thanks to having a extra account or more laying around from back when it was possible to easily register dummy accounts as long as you logged into them periodically so they wouldn't get purged due to inactivity which is what happened to the dummy account I made and I lack the means to make a real QQ account.

The real problem however is that even if I found someone with a QQ account who is willing to be the messenger, they'd have to agree to first register an account there, post the message along with any further messages depending on if the Chinese group wants to talk about it, then download the tools if they agree because that forum is one of those that only allows registered users who are logged in to download attachments, and then finally get back to us with the spoils of victory by linking to the tools wherever they uploaded them. That's an awful lot to ask of some random user who I'm asking for help because they have an account that can access the place. This would all be assuming that I even knew where to find someone with a QQ account.

EDIT: IMPORTANT UPDATE: NEW PLAN: Since attempting to contact the Chinese group has failed, I have a new idea. I still have a copy of the Traditional Chinese translation and I want someone to look at the code and see if they had ironed it out when they messed with it. It's a long shot, but I feel that any chance is worth taking at this point. The new problem is that I don't know where to go or who to get in touch with for something like this. I already tried /m/ and the only advice I got was a discord server which didn't work because it required phone verification. If I had my own phone number though I would've gotten a QQ account (My old one that expired was from before they started using SMS verification) and tried talking with the Chinese group first.
