Sorry but I think the Wii U GamePad Mic couldn't work on Wii Mode. It being used as an screen and even as a controller is wonderful already.

Why even bring up vWii? Rice64 is the only one that actually runs the game, and it's outdated as hell, if this where to happen it should be done through modified VC Injection.

A media player for Wii U is very much needed.

Seriously, there's like 8 media players for the goddamn Wii and it only supports 480p!
Yet, the Wii U supports 1080p but nobody thought to make a simple media player. WHAT THE HELL!

I don't know anything about Wii U homebrew development, but just porting WiiMC and freshening it up a little doesn't seem like it would be insanely hard.
I know I can't really talk because I haven't contributed anything in that department but c'mon.
We have three MAME emulators and not a single media player?

Get the priorities straight.

All of Wii's HB media players work on Wii U, that being said they perform terribly on it unless all you want is music or a video less then 5 minutes long.

I know, and the max resolution is only 480p, which is ASININE for watching movies or tv show episodes.
Also, after like 2 minutes of run time there is almost always stutters and crashes, and at that point, why even bother with that?
There's literally like 8 different media players for the Wii, each one worse than the last, like why even waste your time?

On the other hand, the Wii U has the potential of 1080p resolution and hours and hours of playing video, which screams to be used by homebrewers, they could make some scrappy player so that people can download a bunch of anime and watch it in full HD! But nooo...
Instead the Wii U homebrew devs are more interested in making a flappy bird clone and 3 seperate MAME emulators instead of a simple media player.

It's quite sad actually.

Not to trash on devs but aside from RetroArch and Injects everything else was treated with a, just use Wii hb, which with the exception of Nintendont, is really fucking annoying.

I get Switch is everyone's new favorite toy, but to just leave Wii U scene as is, is fucking pathetic and all anyone is asking is 2 things a real fucking media player, and a file explorer.

I'm also sick of hearing people make retarded complaints about Wii U when you can easily tell they've never fucking owned one and their knowledge is based on what other shit talking non owners say about it.

Too much emphasizing on what it can't do. All I'll say there is fuck Saturn/Dreamcast, fuck 4k.

Oh and want to talk about can't? Switch cannot use TV and Gamepad at the same time so Wii U is still superior for DS.

I also laugh at the thought of GC/Wii on Switch. The performance is going to be a wasted effort.

I gotta agree with this.
People relied too much on the Wii U having backwards compatibility for the Wii for most homebrew purposes, and that really sucks ass, because the Wii U has an amazing potential to become a great multimedia machine, and an almost all-in-one emulation one too.

I just which that a proper multimedia player can appear for it, and perhaps seeing the bounties still pending for emulation on the Wii U to be finished. That'd be all I ask to close down the Wii U.

Not to mention Haxchi/CBHC is what should be considered the starting point not the finish line.

Believe it or not there are a lot of people who won't even fuck with CFW till it's got something like that.

Is there Wii U-Homebrew dealing with the 300 title limit?
It's very similar to the one on the 3DS and there are helpful solutions for it there:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-3dsbank-nintendo-3ds-folder-selector.516996/

Could somebody port that to the Wii U ?

No, there is no Hb to bypass the limit. It's also simpler to limit your Injects to N64/GC/DS/Wii and use RA for everything else. Also 3DS games are a lot smaller so it's a lot more common for more people to come closer to that limit.

If it where possible to port it alone it would have been done already.

The biggest problem there is how that tool works by tricking via DSi mode vs how Wii U and vWii work.

Loading Homebrew from Wii U side immediately unloads when the console boots into vWii.

I'd also like to add my interest for a WiiUMC.
I have a PS4 on the same tv but filetypes are limited, and no matter what I do in settings I always get bad over scan on my ps4, Wii U actually conforms to my TV's screen.

Also I remember WiiMC was able to play DVDs on earlier models, would such a plugin be possible for the Wii U to play Blu-Rays? I know Wii U discs aren't exactly the same as blu-ray discs, but they are the same density and laser format correct?

Anyways if one is made I hope its as simple and intuitive as WiiMC, as a lot of Wii U homebrew are lacking in the GUI department.

Hi Immortallix, Without ever having one, I believe a Blu Ray player for the Wii U is near impossible. Every sale of a bluray player or compatible software still has to pay royalties to the creator Phillips. I had a ton of problems with overscan between my laptop and my TV's, for which I have laptop docking stations attached to each TV. One TV's overscan was fixed with the TV's internal menu display settings, the other through laptop display settings in graphics properties. I found a WiiU MC update yesterday, but it barely seems to work for me (it runs on IOS 255 which may require more work behind the scenes). https://gbatemp.net/questions/has-anyone-had-wiiu-mc-version-1-3-5-working.4339/

I desire a port of Xash3D, a GUI file manager, more emulators (no RetroArch please. RA just clutters up my HBL.), the ability to use 2 wiimotes to emulate a gamepad, a proper FreeShop "clone" (Wii U USB Helper doesn't work anymore, so shaddup. I would use FunKii-UI but I dont wanna upgrade to Win 7 SP1 from plain Win 7 because the only copy of Win 7 we have is a burned CD with Home Premium on it.),a noob-proof permanent CFW, etc.

amd is a bit cheaper though
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Cheaper and they are less stingy with the RAM not a big issue now but I can imagine in a yard or two things might be different

    Year not yard lol

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that

least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling

They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow
