I have no idea why this happens. So when I turn on my PS3, the screen starts glitching, then it freezes!

In this case I got as far as the Webman menu before it did this to me. I can still hear XMB sounds when I navigate with the buttons, however, if I blindly navigate to a game and start it it locks up completely. When I press the power button it beeps 3 times instead of turning off. I tried reflashing the NOR with an older backup, and it didn’t work. Also, I can boot to the recovery menu and rebuild the database, but it only fixes the problem for a few days.

Guys WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? Is it a hardware fault? Is my ps3 slim dying?

UPDATE: Now my PS3 just blackscreens. No YLOD. Also I’ve downgraded it to 3.55 OFW and it worked perfectly the previous day.

UPDATE: Those bastards at CeX refused to refund me just because I swapped out the 320GB HDD for a 1TB HDD. Can you believe it?

Possible GPU Fault. or one of the other Video Output Chips , have you tryed other Cable AV SD.

Other than that yes it looks like a Hardware Fault to me? Damn 360 and PS3 and their Overheating Bullshit.

Im sorry to say but that definately looks like a GPU or Scaler fault you could try cleaning up the Chips and apply new Thermal Paste I personally use Arctic Cooling MX4 apparently the best at one point or Arctic Silver 5 , Be extra careful with the Arctic Silver 5 dont get it on your Board or circuits.

Do you have any Fan Mods or even the Fan Controller App on your CFW PS3?

I had a PHAT PS3 60GB with the PS2 Chips and unfortunately I killed it trying to keep the F***er Cool it constantly Heated up no matter what I done I had Nyko Intercooler x4 Small Fans Exhausting at the back and an 80mm Fan Exhausting at the top with a USB x4 Fans Blowing through the front and the main Fan running 100%.
It sound was horrendous so I tryed peeling off the Metal Plates so I could clean up and apply fresh Thermal Paste to the Cores and then my PS3 Hit the wall and fell down the stairs.
Those Heatplates did not want to come off:nayps3:

I was getting Temps at around 80c but climbing up and up and would not stay down so I too forked up the Cash for a Slim and keep close eye on it with Fan Mod and Temp Monitor because they too get too hot but atleast I dont think they as bad.

If all else fails a new PS3 or possibly a Reflow and Reball ofcourse depending on the price you may as well buy another one preferably exploitable;)

I don’t have any physical modifications of any kind, and I don’t have the fan controller app. I do have webman MOD, which does have fan controls, but I just left it on SYSCON mode.

Sometimes when my PS3 gets too hot but I want to keep playing, I close the game and then run the fans at full blast until the temperature gets to about 40-60 degrees celcius.

Once my PS3 ran pretty hot so a notification appeared saying that the system was running too hot. That only happened once, because I was playing for hours. I notice that after about an hour of gameplay the fans get pretty loud, especially with games like GTA V.

I would actually prefer a phat PS3 with full PS2 backwards compatibility - it could replace my PS2 and plus I’d have the memory card reader and extra USB ports. Sadly there’s the obvious issues with overheating, and unlike the PS2 I cannot use GS mode selector to force games to output 720p or 1080i resolution.

I seriously dread to think about the cooling issues with the PS4...

Well I think PS4 or XB1 for that matter should be ok , better Processor Dies and manufacturing smaller in size but still better to be safe than sorry , I have seen many ridiculous cooling mods which dont do crap external coolers are bogus but in your current situation it seems you maybe a bit too far gone , but like I said there are methods Heatgun quick DIY Fix and potentially dangerous and then add clean paste etc or hope for the best just give everything a clean add new paste or professional reball best.

IDK I’d probably get it reballed professionally but I’m kind of unwilling to send it to someone because just recently I lost my xbox 360 at the bus stop just as I was about to send it to somebody to RGH it. And the person I sent it to is extremely reluctant to give me a refund.

I could just buy an unopened PS3 slim in its original packaging but that would be way too expensive. I seriously wish I could get a super slim but I don’t know when you’ll be able to install CFW, if ever.

Just yesterday I erased it and reinstalled the CFW. I’m not gonna do anything that will make changes to the NOR flash (apart from changing the boot screen back to the original ps3 logo rather than the rebug logo).

If you reball GPU your gonna have to replace GPU most likely with this issue.

I found my receipt and I’m about to change my PS3 for a new one where I bought it. I’ve uninstalled CFW (but downgraded to 3.55 in case they refuse to refund me).

I heard changing the fan settings in Webman (or using the fan controller app) can make your console last longer. Should I do it and what settings should I use? BTW my PS3 is inside a TV cabinet with no ventilation at the sides or back (it’s in the corner, sitting on top of my PS2)

Also, even at 480p resolution the same thing happened.

Damn. I would get a new PS3 but CeX has horrible customer service. They told me I’d voided the warranty just by upgrading the HDD. How is that fair?

That PS3 cost me £70. I would buy a new one as long as it had a sufficiently long warranty and I would be able to upgrade the HDD as I wish. There’s no way I’m spending money on a 1TB PS3 (do those even exist?) when I have a 1TB HDD I got for free. I’d buy one with any size HDD as long as it was exploitable and not likely to die on me.

My PS3’s completely broken, it just gives me a black screen. No YLOD. How am I supposed to afford a new PS3? I can’t sell my old one because it’s broken.
