I have an issue and google can't find the solution, I have a 400gb USB disk, I loaded the wii games with wii back up manager. With the wii games and the path for the wii games I have no issues. Only when I redirect the path for gamecube games to the same drive do I run into USB loader shutting the Wii U off.
Any guidance here? I tend to search until my eyes turn red but not seeing a solution here. Any help here is greatly appreciate and thanks for taking time to read this.

if the console shutdown, it probably means it crashed.
how did you add the gamecube game ? (you used a program?)
where is located your gamecube game on your hdd ?
di you have nintendont?

gamecube games are not installed with Wii backup Manager (they are gamecube games, not wii games).
gamecube games go into the /games/ folder instead of /wbfs/, and need a specfic filename.
you need a gamecube game loader to play gamecube games, usbloaderGX is only a front end to launch the gamecube loader (usually nintendont).

you can't just put gamecube ISO as if they were Wii games and expect programs to understand what you did.
You have to learn how gamecube loader are working and how to setup the files correctly. I suggest you read the first post of Nintendont thread, everything is explained.

Going to read the nintendont thread now but will answer questions first.

I added GC games in "games" folder at the root of the USB & the iso's are inside a folder with the name of the game. The ISO is named "game" within the folder, I loaded the GC games with just windows drag and drop. As for the nintendont I set USB loader to use nintendont.

Im able to run GC games via my SD but limited to 64gbs and my library is 73gbs. Worst case scenario ill just shrink library as it seems that loading HD with just wii games doesn't result in a crash.

It was all well until i changed the path to GC games from SD to USB. Ill see if nintendont answers my question. Thanks

PS USB drive is in fat32 format, formated with wbfs2fat

hmmm, your setup seems fine.
I thought you used wiibackupmanager to installed the game, (I saw people doing it, so I thought it might be a common mistake).

You did good :
/games/<title>/game.iso and disc2.iso

So, the gamecube run fine if they are located on SD? even if launch from USBLoaderGX?
is the problem only when using the USB?

Could you try to launch the game directly from nintendont ? that will show us if the problem happen in USBLoaderGX or in nintendont.
Maybe nintendont just shutdown the console if it encounter a crash ?

I'll guess something :
- check your game's file extension (iso, ciso, or gci). USBGX doesn't support ciso format yet so it might not send proper data to nintendont.
- use full iso (don't compress to ciso or scrub it to be smaller)

GC games work if I run in Nintendont, looks like its a USBLoaderGX issue. I swapped the path of games for GC to be SD this way it wouldn't shut the Wii off & will use Nintendont to run GC games.

I think it is a few GC ISO games that are the root cause will report back if I get it to work by removing bad GC ISOs (some may not be 1:1)

What version of USBLoaderGX are you on? Perhaps try the latest version and a version from 1-1.5 years ago and see if the issue is the same on both.

Unfortunately Cyan, I have no way of testing this configuration so I might have missed this incompatibility during any testing. My configuration follows the recommendations of the Homebrew developers as outlined below for Nintendont.

Excerpt from Nintendont OP:
Features Nintendont doesn't support yet:
  • Dual ports support DO NOT CONNECT TWO DRIVES AT THE SAME TIME! (even a WiiU Formated drive). It will either not boot, or corrupt your savegames.
Restrictions
Nintendont does NOT support multiple HDD connected at the same time.
If you are on WiiU : Please, unplug your WiiU HDD first. Connect only the vWii HDD. as work around, you can use SD card for gamecube games and keep WiiU HDD connected.

Trying to setup your console in order to bypass this is not supported or endorsed by Nintendont developers.
Don't tweak your IOS and cIOS and complain your other homebrew are not working like you want.
Plug only ONE HDD and everything will work fine, it's easier and less work for everyone. Don't force other users to debug you issues by using non conventional setup.

don't worry if you couldn't test it. I should also do the test myself before releasing anything, and I didn't !

when there's a bug in USBLoaderGX, it usually crash with numbers on screen. but, now that I think about it, I don't remember if it also display code dumps on vWii and reboots, or shutdown the console.
If there's a bug, and it shutdowns, it'll be harder to understand what's wrong.

Like JacobM said, what is your USBLoaderGX revision number ? (it should display on the launch screen, and on the Credit page in the settings)
did you try to reset the settings? keep a backup first if you want, it's in apps/usbloader_gx/GXGlobal.cfg and also game config file (forgot the filename)
if you are in 1271, try 1268 (last stable, but has 2 non working nintendont settings), or 1262 (previous stable). you can find all links in usbloadergx thread's first post.

oh, and you are launching everything from vWii HBC ? or from a forwarder, or from WiiVC injected channel ?

I had reset config to default in each version and while in 1262 it did not shut down and it displayed GC games but resumed shutting down once reset.
Neither 1268, 1271, nor 1262 worked appreciate the help, I guess ill stick to nintendont for GC and USB loader for wii games.
will add that I tried from Homebrew menu and the injected home loader both resulted in same issue.

I'll try another USB device in the future, if I find any solutions I'll keep you guys posted.

thanks for the answers and report.
this is really strange, nobody reported that problem before. And 1268 was used a lot (it was the only available revision for a year), it's strange it's also only for gamecube games.

it's either the game, or the device.
- did you try with another HDD ?
- you also said it might not do it with all your games, so maybe some of the ISO are not really ISO but cISO renamed to .iso to make them list in the loader? If you can test the games and see if all or only some have this problem it would be nice.
if it's the ISO, I'm not sure if the problem happen in the loader, or in nintendont shutting down due to the loader not sending proper data to it. (I suspect the later, as there's no shutdown code in the loader, I think nintendont has it) but the problem is still caused by USBLoaderGX if it's sending wrong data.

The loader should only send the game path, cheat file path, and the settings to nintendont, no internal ISO data is sent.

I suspect it is hard drive but odd due to it working perfect unless I try to load the library of both wii & GC with USB Loader, it will take me a few hrs to try another drive.
I'll have to push that to another day, would be nice to have Wiiware (SD), Wii (USB), & GC (USB) all load up for now ill just work around it.

Thanks for all the help nonetheless, appreciate it

Update it was the hard drive that would shut the wii u off.
But the other drive I had setup identical to this drive would load GC games to black, and that included just loading games under Nintendont.
While the USB drive that trigger the wii u to shut down in USB loader, can run the games in Nintendont.

With so much unplugging and troubleshooting I managed to damage the cable that provided power to the drive that loaded to black.
That is a wrap for now unless I get another which I do not plan to do so.
I got the Wii U loaded with some finesse it can run what I want it to run, it will do.

Did you ever figure this out? I’m in the same boat.
