You can backup the NAND using Hekate. If you update it via official means (Change the 90DNS DNS configurations back to default), it will burn fuses on the inside, making it impossible* to downgrade (may be wrong. I think they came up with a way to downgrade it via hacking that wouldn't check the fuse count). You can still hack it on 6.2.0 (latest firmware) though.Having read so many posts, I'm now even more confused! Lol
Got my daughter a switch, 4.10 out of the box (patched serial), however it won't let me link the console, login online or even play Mario party without first updating it! (Currently updates blocked via DNS)
Damn thing is so frustrating, literally won't let you do anything without first updating it!
Do I update to 6.20, link console etc and then block updates or is there something I'm missing that I could do now?
Not even sure you can back nand on a virgin switch.
But yes, if you want to go online, you have to update it, either officially, or unofficially through the means of ChouDujourNX. Even then, I don't know if its safe to go online after unofficially updating it via the ChouDujourNX program.
Edit: Best practice is to have 2 consoles. 1 to do your hacking on, and one to play online.
