so about to bite the bullet and update to 6.1 from 5.1 I’ve done a lot of reading and watching videos and they all state that it will automatically turn on auto rcm is this mandatory or can I change it back afterwards don’t really want auto rcm heard a few bad things about it ...

Well you can always update to 6.2 now that sx os supports it with their latest 2.4 beta. If you use choidujournx it will automatically enable autorcm. You can of course disable this feature however if you load into ofw without using sx payload you will burn your e-fuses. Only disable autorcm if you don’t care for your e-fuses or will make absolutely certain you use a jig + paylod everytime you load your firmware it will bypass the fuse check.

So it’s my understanding if you burn your fuses you can’t go back to earlier firmware versions

Correct. Most people avoid burning e-fuses because they believe in the posibility of a future exploit method that does not require the use of a dongle. It is my understanding that this would be a greater possibility for those who are on lower firmware versions such as 1.0 than those on higher versions as things get patched over time but we do not know for certain what will or will not be possible.

If you have no intention of ever downgrading your firmware for this reason or any other, I would not worry about burning your e-fuses. Personally I do not intend to downgrade lower than 6.2 since it does everything I need without issues however I have autorcm enabled so I maintain only 6 burned fuses rather than 8 so I could technically downgrade to 5.1.0 if I ever wish to do so. My ideology is it doesn’t hurt to keep your options open, but do a nand backup if you do ever want the posibilty to downgrade. I typically do one on every firmware update I do for good measure. Good luck

I've used autorcm from the get go, if you do a little reading and mostly use sleep, or take care to turn off the unit in the correct way there is nothing to worry about.

90% of people's problems is due to not bothering to read and learn anything and it ends up either;

#1 my battery is dead because I couldn't be botherd to read.
#2 I made a backup of x, but I burnt my fuses. Am I fuked?
#3 why is my screen black?

AutoRCM is your pal... And you never know what the future holds for even 5.1.0...
