So recently I installed Luma 3ds v9.1 and all kinds of other homebrew apps on my New 3DS system. For 2 weeks everything was working fine (Emulators, CIAs, etc.) but then every time I want to launch any of my installed programs I get an error message saying:

"An error has occurred (ErrDisp)
Error type: card removed.
The card was removed.

Press any button to reboot".

I've never removed my SD card ever since I've installed the Luma launcher I've always transferred data from my pc to my 3DS via the network. My system version is 11.8.0-41E and I have avoided any updates.

Thanks in advance

  1. Copy everything off your SD card onto a computer.
  2. Reformat the card in FAT32 + 32 KB cluster size with Windows File Explorer or guiformat (32 GB and up).
  3. Full Write + Test the empty card with H2testw. Do not skip this step.
  4. If the card passes, delete the *.h2w test files.
    • If an error occurs, you may stop the test. Report back your results.

I've tried but it doesn't work
Can you explain what didn't work?

Did you have trouble copying your data off to the computer? I should have clarified transferring data directly with a computer's SD card slot reader or with a SD-to-USB adapter.

If not that, did you reach the H2testw part?

I did everything you told me to do. I made a backup (it showed no signs of errors or failed attempts), I formatted the SD with the FAT32 +32KB cluster size and it passed the H2testw part. After that I deleted the .h2w files and transferred the backup back to the SD card which again showed no errors.

What model 3DS or 2DS do you have? If this is an o3DS or o3DSXL with standard size SD card, are you using a micro-to-standard SD card adapter?

Do you have another SD card to use for the time being? If you do have another card, reformat and H2testw test it before using. Check if the card error also appears with this one too.

Edit - Nvm, you said New 3DS.

I ordered a 32 GB SD card online because I got no spare SD's in my home at the moment. I will tell you the results as soon as I get it.

Your new card may not reveal anything out of the ordinary. You'll just use it until another error appears, or after a while, you've determined there's nothing wrong with the n3DS.

As for your old card and if no further card removed error appears, it just may mean it's simply too old or too slow to keep up with read/write demands with the n3DS.

If there is another error but with the replacement card (after ensuring it's correctly formatted and verified good with H2testw), prime suspect is that the SD card slot reader is going bad. You can try again making a temporary test build setup to eliminate the possibility you have already corrupted files causing the bug.

Not knowing whether you meant n3DSXL or n3DS, here's DIY repair and replacement part:
