Is it worth it ? Right now I just have a few 16 or 32 gb usb drives.

With wii games I could see it adding up but I wasn't sure how picking the wii was with power and such.

Or should I just use my external usb hook up with ide/ sata and external power brick to use a wd 1tb black desktop drive I have?

Hello,

prefer the external hard drive (fat32) with its external power supply.

How would you recommend formatting it ? I know wii games are larger then 4gb . I saw a thing recommend FAT32 with 64k/cluster or less. (32k/cluster and 64k/cluster recommended).

I know there was a tool to split them into 4gb discs. Wasn't sure of performance.

I use an App called USBLoaderGX. It supports a file system called WBFS. If you hook it up to a PC you need a transfer manager (WBFS manager) as an example.
The manager will trim iso's to the minimum size possible and put them on the drive. WBFS seems to handle large files just fine. I have an old setup but still use this.
If you plan on using the HDD on a WiiU then there are better setups.
Some USB 2.5" hard drives can run successfully with just 1 cable/connector and turn on and off with the Wii.

I formatted my 1tb external it old and need to be used.
I'll try it out later I had forgot I could had used this one.

So I formatted it but when I loaded up Loader gx it just stayed on loading usb.
Should I just let it sit there for awhile due to its size ? The 16gb I had been using loads fast but I wasn't sure if issue with the size or not. I may try another cable tomorrow.

I used Aomei partition standard edition. Right now I'll just use it as a repository for now I guess.

I've never heard of that so I can't say, I just use minitool partition wizard and it let's you choose between gpt and mbr. The default is gpt but that's meant for computer, you need to change it to mbr. It could be causing your issue.
