Would you mind helping me, please? I patched using Mutipatch for Mac and whilst the ROM file patched okay, it won’t run on my CycloDS Evo. I get an error stating that the save file could not be loaded even though the Japanese and Spanish versions both worked fine with my card.

I use Multipatch as I only have a Mac and it worked fine for me. I think it's just unfortunate that there are so many flashcarts and what works on one might not work on another.

On that note, if anyone is interested; I got it to work on my R4 SDHC Dual Core 2015 flashcart using YSMenu and with the patch that has the JP Arm7 inserted. I tried a lot of other things to get this to work, and I can even close my 3DS and it still boots back up. I completely re-formatted my SD card using Panasonic SD Formatter first, and that seems to be the clean slate I needed.

On an extra note, even if the sd is re-formatted that way, there's a chance it still might not work on ysmenu.

@BOBdotEXE
Nice banner patch. I can't wait to apply it. (Gbatemp won't let me quote your message.)
Also, someone already beat you to the punch with the cover art.

Been playing it for 2 hours. If I didn't know it was a fan translate, I wouldn't have been able to tell.

Great work! That game deserved it. Never had a chance to play it on PS3. It's christmas already.

Don't think i'll ever be that impress by fan's work...till DQ XI 3DS in 2026. ^^

No renaming.
Downloaded the file and tested it.
Works just fine.
You might wanna try updating your Winrar and/or 7zip and try again.
If that doesnt fix it something might be wrong with your browser, so your file ends up corrupted.
If so, try another browser.

WinRAR and 7zip and all browsers are up to date on both my tablet and my raspberry pi, so idk. I even gone about installing a different browser on my pi and itnstill threw the error.. but doesn't matter now as someone was kind enough to send me the extracted file.

Try the official winrar android app, the person who provided the patch could have used the latest version of winrar, with the latest winrar compression, which hasn't been cracked properly enough to be actually extracted properly with other apps. It's the apps you're using, not the file. The arm7 rar is fine. The problem lies with what you're using to extract it with.

I am using the official WinRAR android app and its all the eay up to date, even WinRAR/7zip on my raspberry pi is all up to date as well, as well as me having tried other browsers (that are all up to date as well).. but doesn't matter now as someone was kind enough to send me the extracted file.

I made an account just to say thank you to everyone who worked on this over the years!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Has anyone gotten a list together of which flashcarts this translation runs on?
because on the R4i+ from r4ids.cn it starts to a frozen white screen. Is this due to an anti piracy measure?

I have the same cart and everything worked fine for me.

Thanks for responding. I've tried both my r4i cards neither work with this game. Thanks for confirming that it works. I'm going to keep trying to get this resolved.

This is true. I'm just hoping it might also work for some others. I've had multiple occasions where a ROM has thrown me a -6 error and a simple reformatting has nearly always solved this issue (at least for me).

Tested with R4 SDHC dual core 2015 and YSmenu got error -4.
I had the same problem — but only with YSMenu!
The game works perfectly with the original R4i-SDHC kernel though!

Just move everything (except for the games and saves, of course) from your flashcart into a backup folder on your computer and put THESE files onto your flashcart instead:
h(tt)ps://www(dot)mediafire(dot)com/file/t9b816yh8sbjsng/R4i-SDHC_originalKernel.zip/file

Tested with R4 SDHC dual core 2016 got error -6.
I had that problem (on my original R4i-SDHC kernel) when using the patch from the first post in this thread.
Patch the original Japanese ROM with the ARM7 patch by Hephaestus instead:

h(tt)p://www(dot)mediafire(dot)com/file/w2242ffnwxlo2ue/arm7.rar/file
Apply this patch on a clean Japanese ROM, not your already English patched file.
Then the game will run perfectly, as you can see here:

Man, tried several times and nothing. Do you mind help me with a quick step by step? Thanks in advance ^^
Download Tinke, use it to extract arm7.bin from JPN rom
Use xdeltaUI to patch JPN rom with 1.0 patch
Use Tinke to open the patched english rom and "change file" the arm7.bin inside with the file you extracted above

It's actually very straightforward:
1. Get an original Japanese ROM (MD5 checksum is f0e3027b9e97618732b4f2d4298ad0cf) , make a copy into a temp folder
2. Put both .xdelta files from their original posts to the same folder (original arm7 & translated banner)
3. Download XdeltaUI (http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/) & extract it there too
4. Run XdeltaUI, select arm7.xdelta in the first prompt, an original ROM in the second & your desired output file (i.e. 'Ni No Kuni.nds')
5. Click the 'Patch' button & wait till the job is done.
6. Repeat actions from the step 4, but now in a first prompt you should select the English_banner.xdelta patch & the output from the step 4 as a source ROM in the second prompt. The resulting file should have a new name (e.g. 'Ni no Kuni - The Jet-Black Mage.nds').
7. Click 'Patch' & when it's done put the file on your 3DS' SD card into the \roms\nds directory.

That's it, now run Twilight Menu++ & enjoy.
