I'm new to installing homebrew on the Switch. I don't have a Switch yet. I have found a couple online to buy.

One of them has the following:
Firmware is 6.2.0
Serial number is XAJ400161

Do you know if this is enough requirement to add homebrew and checkpoint to the Switch? The firmware is 6.2.0. I read somewhere here that maybe you can't add CFW or homebrew to it. The seller also said ''the screen isn't patched''.

My goal is to be able to inject Pokemon and use Pkhex for Pokemon Lets Go and possibly future Pokemon games on the Switch and trade them to my 2nd Switch which will be my main game that I'm going to buy for Christmas.

My friend just sent me a picture of the Serial Number on the switch that he bought today. It falls in the category of "XAJ4004700X and above not safe to buy, possibly patched"

So, my follow up question would be, how do we determine whether or not the console is okay to Softmod?

If a console serial is in the catagory of "possibly patched" is there any way to determine which switches can be hacked and which can't?

Or is it just a case of trying?

The only other way is by digging through the individual serial numbers and comparing it to yours. Since the orange ones have both patched and unpatched units, your serial number may be closer to the unpatched ones than the patched ones. In fact, the lower the serial number, the better as that indicates it was made much earlier which increases its chances of being unpatched. But there is no other definitive way of finding out aside from giving it a test run.

The screen stays black as the payload will fail to affect the console. Basically, nothing will happen so you have nothing to lose by trying. It won't even risk a ban if you try to see if its patched or not.
