3DS firmware version 11.9.0-42 available

Nintendo has pushed out a new firmware update for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, 11.9.0-42. It's currently not known exactly what this update brings to the table, but as always, you might want to wait to see what scene developers say before updating your 3DS, if you want to keep using homebrew. The last update, 11.8.0.41, was released in July 2018, and managed to break multiple homebrew applications upon its initial release, so it's recommended to stay on your current firmware for the time being. As always, the patch notes are for the sake of stability.

  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Possible RIP frogminer?
I'm actually not up to speed on how it works, but I strongly doubt that - doesn't it involve exporting a DSiware, bruteforcing its encryption and signing, then replacing it with homebrew?

Nothing that was changed in this update could influence the verification of software being installed, nor how they are verified before run

TSEC is not a thing on 3DS. There's not a lot they can really do to mitigate CFW on 3DS's that have been hacked via the bootrom flaw. Heck they have yet to even fix the hardware flaw with a console revision yet. 3DS doesn't have the iPatch system the Switch has. They would have to make new CPU templates for their factories to make an updated CPU with fixed bootrom to fix this. Which is really expensive from what I hear. Don't think they will ever bother with it unless they plan yet another major revision of the console....

Aside from that I checked with this:

https://yls8.mtheall.com/ninupdates/titlelist.php?date=12-03-18_07-00-42&sys=ktr&reg=E

and this for old3DS:

https://yls8.mtheall.com/ninupdates/titlelist.php?date=12-03-18_07-00-37&sys=ctr&reg=E

And they didn't change much aside from removing some hotspots from the Nintendo Zone hotspot list and changing something in the browser. NATIVE_FIRM/Home Menu was not updated. They didn't even update the friends module so don't think you'll even need this update to continue playing online.

How about update the MCU firmware so that it injects extra verification code into the boot process? In other words, a fix implemented in the same way a DMA attack is done.

Well aside from the very high risk of bricking even "legitimate", stock systems.

In a couple of days you will find out if you can but most likely you will still be able to. Also you're saying you already updated it to 11.9? I guess you should start by turning of wifi or automatic updates. This is all explained in the different guides like 3ds.hacks.guide

Note for Nintendo: No need for me to update because my 3DS is more stable than NES

You can downgrade... after you mod your system (not that it would bring any practical advantages in any case, neither does 11.9 bring any disadvantages to modding)

3DS doesn't have automatic updates, only automatic update downloads, the user must manually confirm them

Thanks!

Assuming they didn't patch it which their are no reports yet so if you don't mind spending a few extra bucks on a flash card then you can try the ntrboot method: https://3ds.hacks.guide/ntrboot

Thanks @Galaxy☆Guy
Ich prefer Not to buy any additional stuff but thank you anyway!!

Thanks @Ryccardo !
So could you explain how i can downgrade to 11.8?
Or since a lot of users Report everything to Work Just fine isn't it possible to homebrew even with the New 11.9?
I found a videoguide to bomebrew with the 11.8 firmware that seemed legit but since the 11.9 i don't quite want to try it out until confirmation came that it does or doesn't Work.
Thank you!

The console must be stable af now

The update must block some exploits, but sure, the console is still being supported and games are still being released for it, so there could be real fixes and tweaks other than "plugging holes"
