  1. when creating a nand backup and boot0/1 backup, should i disable autorcm first? or is that irrelevant for a potential restore?

  2. if i should disable, does choi use the same method of forcing autorcm as hekate does? (can i remove chois autorcm with hekate?)
note that i don't really mind ban risks. just... not being able to restore in case something happens risks

You're overcomplicating it! You can backup your NAND, as Hecate will support exFAT. In order to modify your NAND anyways, you'll need to make a backup, modify the backup, then upload the backup. You can just save it (as well as making a full backup through Hecate) then before modifying it.
Thank you! Well, I guess I messed up my SD card, though, since Hekate shows "[FatFS] Error: NOFAT - Failed to mount SD card (FatFS Error 13. Make sure that a FAT partition exists." - I'm formatting it right now using SD Card Formatter (full overwrite) which takes quite a while, but hopefully that will fix it. :)

I am currently running 6.1.0, updated via ChoiDujour and with no fuses burnt since buying the unit with FW 3.0.0.

I have used SX OS to install emunand to NAND. I plan to use 2.3 to migrate emunand to microSD when I get around to it. The emunand firmware is at 6.0.0.

If I want to go online, would updating the OFW to 6.2.0 while keeping emunand at 6.0.0 (or updating to 6.1.0) be a viable option? Will this break sleep mode?

Can ChoiDujour be used to update to 6.2.0 without burning fuses?

This is probably a stupid question, but how is the interaction between XCI and NSP games? I ask that because I see that updates and DLCs need to be installed as NSP, so I'm not completely sure if in this case I need to install the game as a NSP too or if it will work with the game as XCI.
And in case of an Emunand on my SD, will every NSP file that I install be automatically on my SD card too? I don't want any traces of NSPs installed on my internal memory just in case I decide to update it to play online later.
I mean if you have a game physically but buy the DLC digitally, it works no? And when you install anything in EmuNAND, its not shared with SysNAND. You should actually install .NSP files to the Internal Memory using EmuNAND first because since EmuNAND is a copy of your SysNAND (and assuming you don't have a lot of content installed on SysNAND), a lot of EmuNAND's internal space is blank.
Does anyone know if there is a game cart that has the 5.1 firmware update on it and can update from the cartridge?

Would happily buy whatever game has the 5.1 update on it so that I can update from the cartridge.

It's so much easier and I feel safer updating the firmware from the cart rather than other methods.

  1. AutoRCM only affects boot0 because that is where it is installed. While the order doesn't matter, I would recommend disabling it before dumping boot0 because if you enable it before dumping, you may confuse AutoRCM working for a brick
  2. Hekate/bricmmii should be able to reverse any type of AutoRCM

Yes, if you update SysNAND to 6.2, it will break sleep mode on EmuNAND when it is running a firmware less than 6.2 because 6.2 has a fuse count of 8. No, you cannot use ChoiDujour to update to 6.2 without burning fuses because no bootloader works on firmware 6.2 meaning you will be unable to bypass the fuse burning.

wait, then i could jut dumped my whole nand on my 200gb micro-sd card instead of dumping 4gb parts on fat32?

gosh - why didn't i just try that -.-

thx!
@Draxzelex https://gbatemp.net/members/draxzelex.429726/

actually the sd-card with 200gb as exFAT isn't recognized on 2.1.0.

if i wanna update is 6.1.0 ok? or should i first head to 5.1.0? (in regard of which game enforces 6.1.0?)

many thx

My current firmware version is 3.0.0

1) Is it safe to install firmware updates by using NSP files using Tinfoil?
2) Is it worth to use more complicated versions of updating in order to not burn any efuses?

I have recently got an unpatched switch for homebrew/backups but it's still in the box (XAW1004600xxxx). This version should be 4.0.1, or perhaps 3.0.1/3.0.2, correct? I've read a few places that there's merit to having a switch lower than 3.0.1 for an untethered coldboot exploit in the future. Is it worth to see if I can get a lower version? Has there been any progress on that exploit?

There was a thread created informing people that Atmosphere could run on 6.2.0 if you provided the required keys. Does anyone know why it got removed? All notifications regarding the thread also vanished from my notifications page.

i was just about to ask which firmware i should put on my emuNAND and then I saw it mentioned above that 5.1 is the current best for CFW. I'll definitely go with 5.1 then as you are supremely well informed and a hero of this forum. but just so I can learn, may I ask why 5.1 is considered the best? I know it can run Devmenu which is useful if you want to delete game updates without deleting the whole game. i was thinking of using 5.1 for this feature alone, unless there is some other way to do this on 6.1

also while doing some reading I saw a post where they said that loading into sysNAND after running emuNAND caused their sdcard to be completely wiped. I'm assuming this no longer happens cause of something about there being an emutendo folder, but i just want to check first as in a perfect world I'd like to be switching back between my emuNAND and sysNAND.

Is xs os safer than atmosphere ? because the cfw is one emunand and on a external sd?
I would definitely say that using emunand is safer, supposing you do it right. Of course, there is always a risk of a ban, but emunand should help prevent bricks. SX haters might say otherwise, but emunand is generally considered the safest route and right now, only SX has it.

If I'm using Kosmos, I notice it comes with exefs patches. Is that all that I need or do I also need the kip patches from The-4n? Secondly, what are the kip patches and why would I need them versus not? Thanks! (I know they are kernel patches, but what are they patching?)

How big is SX EmuNAND suppose to be? Could the size not be the same for different users?

Mine is about 30 gb with lots of 3-4 small parts (like part 1, 2, 3, etc). I thought it was about 15 gb or so.

Do you guys think that the smash bros bundle switch will be one of the patched units? it would be nice if i had a chance to transfer my saves over... i'd expect the bundle to be patched but i just need some external advice here.
All switches from what, July onward are patched? This is what, November, nearly December? I doubt Nintendo made the bundles far enough in advance for them to be non-patched.
