I have some questions that have probably been asked a billion times but I couldn't find clear answers. I haven't updated my Switch at all since I bought it and I haven't done any CFW stuff yet. I'm on version 3.0.2 right now, and I have an RCM jig that I 3D printed and attached a ripped up micro-SD card pins to. I just want to confirm I understand what I need to do, in terms of firmware version:

1) Follow a tutorial for loading the CFW, still on 3.0.2
2) Update using ChouDujourNX (?)
3) Do I update to 5.1 or 6.1? Do I even have that choice or does it just go to the latest one?

Thanks!
You can choose to update to whatever firmware you can track down when using ChoiDujourNX. 5.1 is the best firmware for CFW/homebrew while 6.1 is reserved for online play but most hacks still work on it.

Ok, it was hard, but I finally entered RCM mode.

Since I use a MacBook, I am using Web Fusee Launcher, and Switch is correctly detected. Once there, I have 2 different payloads to choose from: "SX OS Payload" y "hekate - CTCaer mod v4.0 Payload".

In both cases, output is as follows:
Qequesting access to device..
Connected yo NVIDIA Corp. APX

And that's it, nothing else appears at the web application nor at switch screen.

What am I missing? What about the backup? Should I have made it somehow else, or is it the next step?

Additional data: I'm on firmware 6.1

Did you check to see if your Serial Number is patched? If not, you can do so by visiting this thread.

I did, it is compatible. I have been told that something should appear on switch screen once the payload is sent, but I see nothing. Is it failing somehow? What can I do now?

I don't have any experience with sending payloads with non-Windows devices so hopefully someone whose more versed with that OS can help you in that regard. Perhaps the USB cable you are using only charges and does not transmit data but I do not know how to check for this...

Does it need to be USB 3.0? My macbook air is from 2012-2013, so it doesn't have usb 3.0 ports. I could use an Android phone, but I have no cable with two usb-C ends. Any other idea?

when ever i try to launch the album on my switch it crashes and i am given the following error, "2347-0005"
i update my sdfiles thru the app, and after that is just woulndt boot into cfw. so i manually coppied new files from the sd setup zip and i can boot cfw but not the hb menu.

For MacOS, it has to be a USB 3.0 cable.

That error means you're missing hbmenu.nro on the root of your SD card according to this thread.

Oh, thank u i will try that. also my apolgies for posting the same thing 4 times, my network was fucky

i resolved it, simply downloaded the new hbmenu nor and it worked.

My jig isn't working, I guess I put it together wrong or something (it's not booting into recovery when I press vol up and power, just boots normally). What kind of jig is recommended to use? I'm willing to buy one and wait for it to ship if I have to.

Is it possible to run unsigned software (homebrew, backups, etc) permanently?
I have followed two guides and both result in a temporary running of the homebrew launcher.

(I've installed CFW on 3DS/PSP/Wii/PS3 so I'm somewhat familiar of the principles here, but I'm lost.)

Not familiar with the PSP, Wii, or PS3 homebrew scenes but 3DS didn't have permanent CFW either. The exploit was more or less permanent since it was installed into your system but the CFW itself was still not permanent because if you turned the console on without the CFW on the SD card, it would load up OFW. Same situation with the Switch; turn off the console and the exploit needs to be resent. I think the issue with older systems is that they didn't care if the software was signed or not which allowed for unsigned software such as CFW to persist. But the 3DS and Switch reject any unsigned software without an exploit to trick the console into loading it or Nintendo's personal 2,048-character key to sign CFW for it to be recognized without CFW. Your best bet for a "permanent CFW" is possibly an untethered coldboot exploit that was discovered on the 3DS but that wasn't found until the end of its life cycle so it will probably be several years until a similar exploit is discovered on the Switch.

Dumb question but that's why this thread is here:
Can a non banned non homebrew switch get banned for matching versions with a banned switch?

Hello all, i have not hacked my switch yet..i have the atmophere dongle, and i have located a lot of xci files on my computer, but it is ONLY sx os that can use those files???..is it possible to convert the to other format? of find the games again in other format? or is it best to get os xs?

i have now read that you can use a hardrive to put games on? i have a 500 gig external that i have to my wii :)

Hi all. I have a game which i played with cartdrige (at that time i had no sd inserted). Now i want to install its nsp backup, but in SD. What does the nsp installation do to the old saves? and to the old game in NAND?

Only SX OS can play games in .xci format, but you can convert those to .nsp with this tool: https://gbatemp.net/threads/team-2168-zerotwoxci-the-xci-installer.518171/

But you can also find those games in nsp format instead and install those with regular Tinfoil *Cough*

And don't quote me on this, but I do believe that USB HDD support is currently SX OS only.

With that being said, you can't install any updates or DLC content to .xci files (since .xci formatted games are not installed in the first place), so nsp files and therefore, depending on your preference, other CFW like ReiNX and Atmosphere, may be preferred. I personally don't recommend SX OS, but that's just me.
