I'd update to 4.1 since the warmboot is about out. That would at least give you access to most games for the moment, while waiting on better solutions and even a cold boot exploit.
No one has claimed to have a "coldboot" exploit in the way you expect. Both jamais vu and Deja vu are warmboot. FG is the only current coldboot exploit. Where everyone keeps getting the idea that a better permanent coldboot exploit exists is beyond me.

Bypassing firmware requirements is only a field in the control XML. If the game has higher-firmware dependencies or uses a higher masterkey, then it won't work. No, tinfoil is not useless.

One of my switches is still on 3.0 and it works 100% with tinfoil. Keep masterkey reqs in mind and you won't have problems

OP is a dope. Newer games are encrypted with newer keys. Skipping the firmware check only works so long, at the end of the day 3.0 doesn't have keys used by 4.x titles.

Correct me if I'm wrong but tinfoil cannot install NSP's on firmware 3.0.0. I have Reinx installed finally and only decided to do it because I heard tinfoil could bypass firmware requirements now.
However, whenever I try to install any game (doesnt matter what the firmware req are) it says it failed and that I may be required to update my firmware?
I have exhausted every option, I have tried install to nand and sd card, I have tried with bypass and without bypass firmware requirement, it just never works.
I have tried renaming each game, I have tried multiple different NSP files from different sources. I also have downloaded SDfiles 7.3 and placed it on the root of my sd card... nothing works. I also attempted to transfer only one game at a time... kinda lost here at this point.

I've seen other people speaking about tinfoil working for all firmwares but am I just doing something wrong or is this useless on firmware 3.0.0?

(Btw I only wanted to stay on 3.0.0 so I could have access to the warmboot once its released, my switch also isnt banned yet but it might as well be bc it will never go online lol)
Update without burn, be careful not to update the gc firmware (you might have to add a nogc file to the cfw you want to use be sure to look this up)

I couldnt find the no gc file but Im not planning to use my game cart slot any ways so another user told me I have nothing to worry about as long as I never insert a cart I should be fine. In starting to question that now with what you just said... O_O

Eh, it might not matter because we don't know how the warmboot will work, um it depends on the cfw, I don't remember if ReiNX includes nogc support or if you have to add it. I've heard though that it updates the gc slot firmware on boot.

Wrong title, it should be something like "Tinfoil not working on 3.0", except it does work on 3.0, so no, i'ts not completely useless. You should have investigated a little first, Tinfoil can bypass the firmware check but if the game requires a higher key, then there's nothing else you can do expect to update, and that's the reason why tinfoil told you to.

SX OS can bypass firmware requirements on 3.0.0? From what I heard it has some sort of emunand but its not fully useful or functional yet.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

So in your opinion would it be more useful to just upgrade to the most recent firmware and give up on the warmboot?(I'm not even that worried about it, it seems to be over a year away anyway)
You can use Sx os latest version "emunand",it works flawlessly on my switch, ofmw 4.1 and shadow nand with fmw 6.01. everything works fine without any issue. You can stay at 3.00 original nand and update emunand to latest firmware to enjoy newest contents.

Eh, it might not matter because we don't know how the warmboot will work
I was under the impression that we knew the current warmboot theories utilize pegaswitched so it uses an internet connection and a webserver to do. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong.

this is really gbatemp

a useless user complaining about a wip application

you could write an application then. why don't you do it?

First, tinfoil isnt useless. Its useless on 3.0 in my opinion.(I could care less about anyone elses)
Second, I actually can write applications and have written quite a few ^__^

Currently I am developing an rpg for all platforms(except xbox) that is 70% done. Its also cross platform with its multiplayer aspect. I'm planning to release it as a homebrew application for nintendo switch. Quite the opposite of "useless" if you ask me.

The useless ones are the people who waste this golden opportunity called life, spewing hate and negativity to strangers they will never meet on the internet.

Cheers

P.S. mods feel free to close the thread, my problem has been been solved since page 1. No need for anymore "useless" posts

I did but they said it was too much for them to afford :O

Well, it's not useless on 3.0.0. It can install any nsp file which works on 3.0.0 or below. The 'ignore firmware version' option does what it says - it will ignore the required firmware version and brute force an install. This is because some games arbitrarily claim to require a certain version despite actually using older keys. It can't magically make games which genuinely require newer firmware versions work.

Thanks man, I've been contemplating buying a SX OS since it was first announced. Now I want one hearing that the emunand works as well as HDD NSP loading. Cant beat that with a stick..

I understand that much bro, I understood it the first time it was said to me on page one lol

Here's why its "useless" on 3.0 in my opinion to give everyone clarity:
I own every single switch game(the ones I was interested in playing at least) from 3.0 and below, digitally on my main switch which is not hacked.
The reason I was excited for tinfoil was to turn my carts into digital copies and eliminate the need to carry them around. It does work for that purpose but on 3.0 it is "useless" to me and anyone else on 3.0 not looking to play older release title games ect.

People grab their forks and knives when they see the word "useless" or catch anyone having an opinion around here lmao

In short: I have already followed the users advice on page one and updated my switch without burning fuses thus giving me the "usefulness" that tinfoil had to offer me from the beginning.
Thanks everyone for the help and thanks to all the "useless" users who chimed in to take out their hate for their lives on other people, either way I appreciate the responses <3

Bye for now "useful" and "useless" users, I will go back to skimming the forums once again until I release my video game at the beginning of next year. I wish I could stay and fig- errr.. chat but I dont have time :)
I love all of you sweet sacks of potatoes, try not to keeeel eachother now

Well, you called the application useless because you misunderstood one of its features. Some of the comments here are a bit over the top, but many people here know the author quite well so weren't going to be so pleased with the provocative title.

Anyway, glad you were able to use ChoiNX.

WAIT, hold on... you're telling me there could be CHANGES in new firmware?!? Why would they want to give you new firmware with new keys and features, it's not like the games are being made differently with new firmware in mind too!!

It's why I can play GTA5 on my Windows 95 computer... I'm waiting for the Win95 SuperHotBoot, it'll turn every device in my house into ATM machines spitting free money...
