Hacking Hacking Wii U for first time... But...

Hi all,

So I'm hacking my Wii U for the first time. The method I decided to use was "normal" Haxchi. I'm going to skip Coldboot.

I'm following this guide here: https://wiiu.hacks.guide/get-started

I've just purchased Brain Academy and I'm up to this page of the guide: https://wiiu.hacks.guide/haxchi - Everything is working smoothly. I'm currently sitting on the Homebrew Launcher screen. However I've come to a halt because as I'm continuing to read the guide, there are no steps for backing up my system/NAND.

On the "noob" thread there is a flow chart that says I should do this before proceeding to do anything. My SD card is definitely big enough, its 128gb.

Unless I'm missing something?

It tells you to backup the nand when installing coldboot haxchi. The normal haxchi basically can't cause a brick so I guess @Plailect thought it wasn't worth it unless you wanted to go with CBHC

The steps differ and go into more detail than the guide I linked above. Should I stop what I'm doing and start again following the noob guide?

If your doing it go the full hog and go CBHC never had an issue!

I don't feel comfortable doing CBHC because I'm planning on giving this Wii U to someone as a gift and they're not as "clued" on to all this kinda stuff as I am. I don't want to risk them doing something by accident and bricking the console. Plus they have a small child which could lead to accidentally deleting the VC game.

It's pretty hard to stuff up your NAND unless you're CBHCing

It really doesn't matter which guide you follow. The noob guide explains things a bit better, but the guide you're following is at least in my opinion easier to follow.

A nand backup is just recommended though bricking with normal haxchi is pretty much impossible and even if you made a nand backup and bricked only way restore it is to hardmod the console

giving a hacked console to someone who is not familiar with hacks in general is always a difficult decision.
whatever you decide, you'll need to explain everything and be sure the person understand it well or will complain the console is not working and you broke it.

if you go with Haxchi, you'll have to explain what haxchi is. How to go into CFW, or HBL, or both (going to HBL is not applying CFW, only launching homebrew in OFW). Why CFW is needed, and for what.
having CBHC is easier, you are always in CFW, but you have restrictions : never delete the user account ! never format ! never delete the NDS game used by CBHC.
at the end, it's just a problem of how much understanding that person will have on its console's functionalities and features.

Haxchi is always safer, but requires an additional step after every reboot.
