I have a new Android phone (Razer Phone) and have been getting all of my emulators and ROMs/ISOs set up. I had this problem on both DraStic with NDS ROMs and on Classic Boy/My Boy with GBA ROMs. For some reason when I have them on my SD card they will not load properly to be played, but when I moved them to internal storage on my phone they worked fine. This has not been a problem with all of my other ROMs (SNES/Genesis/NES/GBC) but for some reason on these two platforms I can not store them on my SD Card and have them working. I would like to be able to do this to save space on my phone storage so I would really appreciate any feedback or info anybody could give me!

Did you give the permissions to your application for access files on your SD card? Which Android version do you have? And does your emulator find the files on sd card? Or you just can't open them. Honestly, I used myBoy in the past, from Android 2.2 to 5.1 and 7 and there were no problems in storage, except (rarely) unexpected save bugs and crashes on saving. For Gameboy, I recommend you to try John GBA emulator. I actually use it and it works both on internal storage and sdcard.

Thx so much for the reply, I am using Android 8.1 on my new Razer phone. Thx for the recommendation with John GBA, it is doing the same thing though. How do you allow the apps to access the SD card? Is there any way you could walk me through it?

Well, I'm on Android 7.1 and my device will receive soon an update to Oreo 8.0. I installed MyBoy and, that's right, it can't let you access sd card. Its "root" directory is ".../storage/emulated/0" and it doesn't allow you go back and access "storage/[sdcard]" unless you have a root (I don' t recommend this). I also reinstalled John GBA to (re)follow the first steps. On my phone, on first app launch it shows a popup which requests the access to sdcard, then freely loads roms from entire storage. I will tell you more when I get the system update.

Manually method: If the popup isn't showing, you can try to get Phone Settings-> App Manager -> select JohnGBA and you should see an option like "Permissions". Click on it, and you should an "Access storage" option. On my phone this is the only option I see. Switch it on, and you should be able to load games from your sdcard. Please let me know if this is working. See ya!

I ended up getting the GBA roms to work on classic boy, but still having trouble with DS ROMs on DraStic, I will follow these steps with that app and see if it may work the same way. Thank you
