I'd like to use Rosalina to take screenshots in NDS mode (DSimenu++, NDSBootstrap, or just from retail carts). Is this a planned feature or is it doable already?

My new 3ds is on 11.7 and luma updater on 9.0.
When I try to update today, i could only see Updating Luma3DS, performing preliminary operations... for over 10 minutes without any progress.
Do I have to update manually?

Edit:
I'm an idiot. It is waiting for my reply to enable CtrNAND Luma update.

this feature will most likely never be done, as rosalina and all other 3ds processes are shutdown in nds mode

Can I update luma with the QR code image usous FBI? And if yes, where is it? I can't find any reference to it on the GitHub page.

You can't update Luma with a QR code, it isn't an installed app, it's a file on your SD card. You can however update Luma updater using TitleDB in FBI. I don't know if it will work to update Luma though.

The lumaupdate (by KunoichiZ) can be used to update to the latest Stable branch of Luma. It doesn't seem to work with the latest nightly though since it's still using the astronautlevel nightly branch. I did just test this before posting.

Thanks for the confirmation!

It's worth noting that the Hamcha's branch just straight up crashes for me. I am a little sad that there's no updater that includes Pirater12's nightly branch. Although there's also no branch that works with my obtuse setup. I have Luma installed on my FIRM1 from when I was testing FastBoot3DS and just kept updating/running it from there because I didn't want to bother changing my boot setup.

So just tossing the latest stable build on the microsd should be ok? Getting some crashes when launching some newer games, and guessing I need to either update luma past 9.0, or system fw past 11.0. (or both)

11.8 is latest? should i update?
You should both update, yes. Update to Luma 9.1, you just have to replace the boot.firm you currently have with the one on this .7z file.

i already have 9.1

nothing except Freeshop broke?
About bans, freeShop and whatnot:
The checks only occur at install time while downloading from their CDN (like freeShop does), and the checks that actually send console info that could get you banned occur while using the NIM module, and that module is used on sleep downloads.

In short, previously downloaded games are fine, and installing not-blocked titles (here is a list) not on sleep downloads is fine too.

The FBI thing you misheard is for when all (or most) titles are blocked by Nintendo and you can't download them through freeShop. When that happens you'll have to look up the .cia of the game and install it through FBI.

Playing online is fine, except for cheats and unreleased games.

I recommend updating, as you won't lose anything. The changes are made serverside, so staying on a lower firmware version doesn't help.

You're right, it needs permission.

Here is the (current) list:
  • Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer
  • Animal Crossing New Leaf
  • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns
  • Fire Emblem Awakening
  • Fire Emblem Echoes Shadows of Valentia
  • Fire Emblem Fates
  • Kirby Triple Deluxe
  • Kirby Planet Robobot
  • Luigi’s Mansion 2: Dark Moon
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Mario Party Island Tour
  • Mario Party Star Rush
  • Mario Party The Top 100
  • Mario Sports Superstars
  • Mario Tennis Open
  • Mario & Luigi Dream Team
  • Mario & Luigi Paper Jam
  • Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions
  • Metroid Samus Returns
  • Miitopia
  • New Super Mario Bros 2
  • Paper Mario Sticker Star
  • Super Mario 3D Land
  • Super Mario Maker for 3DS
  • Super Smash Bros. for 3DS
  • TLOZ: A Link Between Worlds
  • TLOZ: Majora’s Mask
  • TLOZ: Tri Force Heroes
  • TLOZ: Ocarina of Time
  • Tomodachi Life
There was a Pastebin somewhere, I'll try to find it. Here it is.

why not the pokemon games....dumb from them
Because Pokemon aren't first party games. They are made by GameFreak, which is a second party company to Nintendo and are responsible for their own games.

Some games do have an OFW requirement and or got an update with a requirement. So you will need to update your OFW for those games of course update Luma as well.

Be sure about one of two things:
  1. That the title ID is te correct one for the game you are trying to usecheats with.
  2. That the cheat codes themselves don't require a specific button input to open the cheat menu.
I had the second problem with Captain Toad, I couldn't find the stupid cheat menu, until I read that I needed to press Select to open the menu, and not through the usual means lol
