See i WOULD have said thanks, but here's the thing, your offer came off to me as extremely condescending and done just to get me to shut up and i don't handle that kind of stuff well, i'd certainly not thank someone who was offering me something just to shut me up. Stop hating on a method that works just because it's not the same method that you use. And it's not up to YOU to decide what method people use. You can't "want" people to use a certain method over another, it's their call not yours. I'm INFORMING people that alternative methods exist, i'm giving them information to you don't, it's up to them to decide if they want to use it or not. Not up to you, not up to me, it's up to THEM

While I totally get where you’re coming from. In that, fair enough, inform people of all the options and let them make their own decisions.

But at the same time, I do think it needs to be a well informed decision. So advising someone against using something like the tinfoil method, which has a large margin for error is probably a good idea.

All that said, I’m just waffling now to avoid doing work. I’m far too doped up for that. Fannying about on here and listening to Pink Floyd is a much better use of my time

But at the same time, I do think it needs to be a well informed decision. So advising someone against using something like the tinfoil method, which has a large margin for error is probably a good idea.

Every method has a margin for error if you don't know what you're doing. The fact is, i've used foil the first few times(before i activated auto RCM) and it never flaked, broke once but not while it was being used so it was just a matter of making a new one, doesn't go anywhere NEAR any dangerous pins, never got stuck, never got loose, nothing of the things mentioned that CAN happened ever happened. Now, of course, i can't guarantee it wont happen to to others, which is why i always link the video that i personally followed. I UNDERSTAND the risks(mostly why i enabled autoRCM) but i'm not going to hate on a certain method. What Canna and a few others are doing is not advising people, it's almost forcing them to follow the same method as they do, instead of letting them decide for themselves. It's less of a" I advise against it" and more of a" Don't be retarded, don't do that, do what i do because i'm always right and everyone else is wrong". Least that's how it comes across to me

You have also said" I don't want people to use this method and damage their systems"(correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure this is what you say. Meaning you aren't ADVISING people not to use it, you're TELLING them, almost ORDERING them at times not to use foil. You aren't letting it up for them to decide, the way you talk it makes it seem like you're making the decision for them. Maybe that isn't your intention but that is what you are doing. Telling, almost ordering, not advising. Not to mention your irrational hatred for the people who CHOOSE to use the foil method, downright insulting them and, again, almost demanding that they buy a jig instead of using foil. And yes i will let it rest because, honestly, i don't handle people like you all that well

i'm just summarizing the whole thread for the next person to come along. i feel like there are a lot of ebay jig salesmen in here spreading nonsense. i had a particularly weird experience ordering a jig, and while i waited over 10 days for it to even be shipped i did the foil method instead. i asked for a refund before they shipped it, and they decided to ship instead. when i left a bad review, they said i was impatient and tried to report me to ebay. since a few other people had left the same review, ebay decided to forbid them from selling jigs anymore, so they whined to me about that.

why risk an uncomfortable situation, when the foil method is perfectly safe, i say.

Well it's not SAFE, i mean it has risks, every method has risks. But at least it doesn't have the risk of bending pins inside the joycon/joycon rail

Tinfoil is a cheap alternative to a jig. It does carry a risk like every other method. If it even so much as touches pin 4 on the joycon it will damage your system severely. However i have linked a video, i believe on this thread, that teaches how to properly prepare and use the foil. I followed that video and so far i haven't had any issues whatsoever. Of course it's up to you to choose whatever method you want to use but from personal experience, foil has served me well. And remember, just because they say that something CAN happen, there's no guarantee that it WILL happen so don't let that scare you away from trying this method if you want to
