Hey guys! Sorry if I'm new to this but does anyone have or know how to make a powersaves file for OOTHax 11.8.0-41U? I heard it works but I have trouble finding and building a powersaves payload for OOThax. Could any of you give me a lift?

The easiest way--a second 3DS to load the save on the cart. Powersaves can be tricky; I had trouble with it at first because I couldn't find super-detailed information and didn't want to somehow ruin PS, OoT, or N3DS.

So yeah, if you have a previously hacked system, load the save on that (hacked system) so you can use it on another (non-"hacked") system.

Also, for the record, OoTHax can't be used to install CFW on 11.8, so if your intent was to do that, I'm afraid you can't

Everything I've seen so far indicates that an oothax Powersaves for 11.7 will work just as well under 11.8, and someone posted an 11.7U Powersaves in https://gbatemp.net/threads/oothax-11-7-0-40u-payloads.510172/#post-8210346 .

Or you can just use steelminer to install steelhax, and then run the sploit-installer. (You might have to dump the save data afterwards with JKSM and manually update payload.bin if the sploit-installer doesn't download the right payload.)

What is exactly "everything you've seen?" Last time I trusted everything being said about oothax working on a slightly lower firmware, specifically from gallade guy, I had to find THAT update you mentioned.

There is one post from someone saying that oothax still works, and there are a lot of other posts indicating that other exploits using otherapp.bin work just as well under 11.8 as they did in 11.7.

Not sure what you mean by this.

I mean someone said it wasn't patched last time and they were completely wrong and I had to find another update. Don't know what you're not understanding. I also don't use otherapp, I use a powersaves payload.

You said you had to "find THAT update you mentioned", but I don't know which update I mentioned that you had to find.

I also don't use otherapp, I use a powersaves payload.
oot3dhax is built using otherapp.bin . When you run "sploit_installer_oot3dhax" (included in the starter kit available from http://smealum.github.io/3ds/ ) from the Homebrew Launcher, it downloads a version of otherapp.bin from the Internet. (It is possible that no one updated the relevant scripts and that the installer is still downloading the payload for 11.6 even when 11.7 or 11.8 is specified.)

You can also use JKSM on an exploited oot3d cart to extract and replace otherapp.bin as necessary (only when you do that, the file is renamed payload.bin, because nothing is simple). The Powersaves on the oot3dhax github are also built from otherapp.bin , though the process for doing so is not entirely clear.

ETA: I see there's an offline installer at https://gbatemp.net/threads/install-oot3dhax-offline.446390/ that might be a better solution.

I had trouble getting oot3dhax to work on 11.8 on my n3ds. When I updated to 11.8, the hack no longer worked like many are claiming. The solution I found was to download the other app.bin for 11.7.0.41 (respective country and DS type). I know its not 11.8, but this on worked for me. Rename the file to payload.bin. Add to the root of your SD card.

Typically, before I update the firmware, I will activate the hax, go into the home-brew menu, and then open SVDT. I will delete the old payload on the cartridge and add the new on on the SD card.

However, I forgot to do it this was this time, so I did it with my CFW 3ds. I went into JSKM and created a new back up save on my SD card for OOT. Then on my computer I replaced the payload in the save file with the new payload. I then used JSKM to import the new save with the new payload onto the cartridge.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
